Save Kilcreggan Post Office

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Karen Clayton and together with my husband Stephen we own and run Kilcreggan post office. First opened in 1847 as a telegraph office, then becoming a Post Office with its own sorting office. In those days you could write a note for someone in the village and it would be sent there and then, getting to the recipient within the hour.
Kilcreggan is a beautiful village on the banks of the Firth of Clyde on the west coast of Scotland, we are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Every village needs a dedicated local Post Office, We take an interest in our customers and are often a port of call for friendly advice  and help. We know when certain customers have not been in and can raise the alarm. We try to help whenever we can. (we have customers come from 3/4 villages away by bus, because of the service we offer).
As many of you may have heard the Post office is trying to turn little shops like ours into "Local model" shops, this means that PO services will be reduced and we will loose our monthly office payment, though still be expected to do almost the same work.
The next village has lost their PO and has an outreach service two half days a week, the village has died, We do not want that to happen here!
The only way to remain as we are is to become a Community Branch. This means we will stay with our current contract and have the full services we have now. We could also apply for a grant to improve our business and refurbish the premises.
The criteria for Community Status, is that we are the only business in the village  able to run the PO. All other businesses are either unsuitable or have refused, therefore we ARE the only business able to run a PO in the village.
The PO however have still refused our application and left us hanging, unable to move forward with a grant and unable to leave without forfeiting a leaving payment. (£33000 in our case, we may get a payment if the post office creates an outreach i.e 2 half days a week, But we really feel keeping  what we have now is the best option for the village).

HERE IS WHERE YOU GUYS COME IN,  as we are missing out on a grant and a leaving payment we would like to raise £20000 to refurbish our store. We will keep the Post Office counter while they allow, and at the same time create a more modern and comfortable enviroment for our customers. We believe that  refurbished we will have a greater chance succeeding with our next application to become a community office as the PO will not have to give us a grant if we are already refurbished.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and if you could help with a small donation we would be very grateful., and please help to spread our story.
Please come in and use us! Every transaction helps from a single stamp to a cash withdrawal.
Kilcreggan and the Rosneath Peninsular is a lovely place to visit, and we would love you to pop in and say hi.
Thanks again,
Karen and Stephen
