Save Keith's house during his chemo

Donation protected
Our friend of over 30 years, Keith Carson, is in danger of losing his home during his treatment for cancer. Keith has been unable to work since 2014, when cancer spread to his lungs and caused him to pass out several times while driving in Ocean County, New Jersey. He is currently unable to drive or work. The state of New Jersey has denied him access to the pension he funded for 17 years while working as a Human Services Specialist for Ocean County and as a professor of history at Atlantic Cape Community College because, at the time he stopped working, he'd not yet been diagnosed with lung cancer (though the state knows he was then battling cancer in other areas of his body). Keith and his pro-bono lawyer are fighting for access to these funds, but in the meantime, the bank is pursuing foreclosure on his home. Only 5% of the people receiving Keith's diagnosis make it to the 2-year benchmark. Keith, who is fiercely lucid, relatively pain-free, and still enjoying a reasonable quality of life, is almost at that 2-year mark. He merely wants to live out his life in dignity in the home he has made for himself. Keith is $33,485 in arrears on his mortgage. We need to get that covered for Keith to be reinstated and arrange future payments on the note. Without clearing these arrears, Keith will lose his home. A hearing on his pension is scheduled for March 2017.  We need to raise this money ASAP.

Keith has long dedicated himself to his community. He served for 17 years at Atlantic Cape Community College, first as a Professor of History and eventually as senior adjunct faculty member, and for four years as a substitute teacher in Ocean County at Southern Regional Senior and Middle schools and Eagleswood Township Elementary School. From 2010 until 2014 (when his illness prevented him from working), Keith served as a Human Services Specialist for Ocean County's Board of Social Services. While serving at the South Jersey AIDS Alliance, he founded the Safespace Program, New Jersey's first state-funded HIV education and prevention program for gay men. He also helped create the HIV/AIDS Ministry at St. Francis Church in Brant Beach, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Keith has always been committed to education and active citizenship. He has patronized history parks and programs that have benefited the broader public. When others have needed him, Keith has always been there. Please help us do the same for him.
