SAVE FBI RECORDS

Over a period of 38 years I have requested and received thousands of FBI HQ and FBI field office files via FOIA requests.   At one time, the FBI told me that I was their single largest requester -- i.e. I had submitted requests on 8900 subjects.

Originally, the subject matters of my requests pertained to conservative and extreme right individuals, organizations, publications and controversies.  I later expanded my requests to include documents and files on the left-wing  -- including the Communist Party USA.  [I was the first person to discover the actual number of FBI live human informants inside the CPUSA].

You may see a list of my FOIA requests here:

FOIA LIST OF SUBJECTS

The FBI informed me that I often was the first and only person to submit a request on the subjects listed in my requests.  Subsequently, many of the files I obtained were destroyed by the FBI so, in many cases, I now have the only copies in existence.

Hundreds of my paper FBI files are currently located in a warehouse owned by Internet Archive in northern California.

A student at the Center for Right Wing Studies at Univ. of California-Berkeley is working part-time on a project to convert a portion of my paper files into PDF files.   I then add them to my Internet Archive webpages (see links below).  However, current funding for that project is running out.

ARCHIVE WEBPAGE #1

ARCHIVE WEBPAGE #2

I am launching this GoFundMe request to ask your help so that the entire scanning project can be completed.  Otherwise, these historical files may be lost forever.

In many cases, these FBI files contain the only copies in existence of newsletters and publications authored by the individuals and groups who were the focus of my requests and/or they contain the only available biographical background information about the individuals connected to these organizations and publications.

I am requesting $6500 to cover the labor cost for the scanning project by the UC-Berkeley student working on this project.

Altogether, there are approximately 100 boxes of my FBI files in the Archive warehouse.  Each box contains approximately 4000-5000 pages.

The UC student working on this project, usually brings 5 boxes at a time to UC-Berkeley where he then scans some of the files based upon a priority listing he has been provided.  It usually takes him about 4-5 weeks to finish scanning files in those 5 boxes.

At present, the student has completed scanning about 40% of the files in those boxes and he may be able to finish scanning another 10% by the time the current funding runs out.

YOUR help in preserving these historical records would be greatly appreciated!
