Save CrossFit CHS:

Because of district budget cuts, Cleveland High School is reducing one of its most important programs - one that has changed lives, built community and provided a safe space for students who have nowhere else to turn.

The CrossFit program at CHS isn’t just another PE class - it’s a community. It is a program that empowers young women and men to tackle challenges, support one another to achieve their individual goals, and where for the first time in many of their lives, everyone is an athlete.

There is not another physical education program like this available at Cleveland HS to replace it. There will be no female physical education coaches. What will be left is overcrowded traditional PE classes that continue to leave students behind.

Read our first hand accounts for why this program is life changing and cannot be taken away from an estimated 90 students for the 2018-2019 school year.

This program is more than physical education - it provides students with the skills to tackle the challenges in their daily lives with confidence. Skills they will carry far beyond the gym floor and their high school years.

Please help us save this program for ALL students who have chosen CrossFit as their TOP elective!

A Program that Changes Lives:

“The CrossFit program builds a family. We look out for one another. Mrs. Weaver is not only a teacher to me and many other students, she is also someone who we look up to in every aspect because she balances large classes with a variety of students and makes it a place for everyone to feel cared about.”

“I feel a whole new level of confidence, partly because I feel accepted in the athletic community, but also because I am so much more comfortable in my own skin. Now I know how to workout, and that is such an empowering thing, especially as a female.”

B. Givens

“CrossFit CHS is unique of Cleveland, and it is the only thing Cleveland has offered me that no other high school in the metropolitan area could. It would be heartbreaking to see this program fall apart after all of the hard work put in my Dyer, Garder and Weaver over the last decade. Students want this program. In fact, we NEED this program.”

L. Neher

“This sport has taught me countless things about myself, and shown me how strong women are. Now, I love my body for what it can do, not what it looks like. I am so incredibly proud of how far I have come. ‘Stronger Everyday’ is something that Mrs. Weaver says often, but I could never hear it enough times.”

C. Christensen
11th Grade

“I am different because of this program, I am different because of my teammates and our coach. Mrs. Weaver is my role model, she is the strongest most caring coach this school could ever ask for, she finds a way to make every day incredibly fun and somehow at the same time, the hardest 90 minutes of your whole life.”

I. Baird
11th Grade

“Being a full IB student with many outside commitments [including Search and Rescue], CrossFit gave me a way to get rid of my stress and workout my body when I had little opportunity to elsewhere. CrossFit at CHS is inclusive, non-judgemental and has impacted me profoundly throughout my time at Cleveland.”

A. Dillon
12th Grade

“At CrossFit CHS, Mrs. Weaver provides a welcoming, yet hardcore environment where anyone can improve and have a good time. I would be devastated to see the CrossFit program, and the unique opportunity it provides leave our school.”

S. Gosnell
10th Grade

“The strength CrossFit has brought me, both mentally and physically will impact me for the rest of my life. There’s a good chance without CrossFit my spine would’ve relapsed and I would of needed a life changing back surgery as a teenager.”

A. Lewis-Hoogerhuis
12th Grade

“The CrossFit classroom, the community, the teacher, all of these things are what make me stick with CrossFit. The confidence I gained in myself and in my peers through teamwork is something I never thought could have happened at school.”

B. Gaeta
11th Grade

“I walked in on the first day, prepared to feel completely out of place, and I saw Mrs. Weaver. Her powerful arms crossed over her chest, she flashed a smile at me as I entered. I was awestruck. Finally, I had a woman to look up to, to inspire me, to understand what it was like to be a female athlete in a male dominated sport.”

E. Herring
11th Grade

“The simple truth about this is that CrossFit will not be the same without Mrs. Weaver by our side. She is a big part of the reason why this program is the way it is. She encourages us to keep on going, to never give up when things are hard.”

A. Marx
11th Grade

“Exercise is a fundamental factor of my mental health. What and who I have to thank for this is SST and Mrs. Weaver. CrossFit has improved my mental health, as expected, and it’s beyond benefited my fitness . . . the way I’m maintaining a healthy and stable lifestyle is from CrossFit.”

M. Lomas
10th Grade

“CrossFit provides an opportunity for teens to take risks safely, push physical and emotional limits, create a supportive community and deepen relationships. The collaborative positive and encouraging energy in CrossFit is vital and contagious and that is why it is so popular among the CHS students.”

L. Heins, LCSW
CHS Parent

“As a young woman who was in a vulnerable position as a Freshman in high school, Mrs. Weaver became a role model that I looked up to and exemplified strength and ambition. She goes above and beyond what is expected of an instructor - creating competitions and challenges to motivate students, constantly available to modify workouts so they are accessible to anyone . . . “
