Save Chin's Kitchen Vintage Neon
But Chin's also boasts one of the last artful and lovely animated neon signs left in town. With the City so quickly developing, we aim to resurrect this little piece of our diverse and artistic history.
Neon Gods PDX caretakes a number of Portland's historic neon signs, including The Alibi Tiki Lounge and the Aladdin and Laurelhurst theatre marquees. With Chin's new owners at the helm, we have an opportunity to restore, repaint, and reanimate the sign so that Mr Chin can eat again!
**Bonus! Donors of $100 or more will receive two tickets to Portland's historic Hollywood Theatre as a token of our appreciation**
Now, thanks to your generous support, all the existing neon works. We will add the last missing piece of neon soon and continue to make cosmetic improvements to the sign. Our hope is to move forward after that and repaint this lovely landmark in the spring.
We couldn't have gotten this far without your generous support. Presently, the plan is to suspend the campaign soon, and pick up where we left off in the spring. Good things take time it seems.
Please be sure to visit and check out the amazing northeastern Chinese cuisine that the new owner Wendy Li and her staff cook up up daily.
Thanks again to all for your enthusiastic support!
We're stoked that we got more of the sign lit this week than has been working in many years! The plan is to reanimate Mr Chin this month so he can eat again!
We're gettin' there but we have a way to go so that we can repaint the sign-- so please keep on sharing!
Thanks again for your support!
Warm regards to all,
For instance, we got a note from a gentleman whose family owned Chin's for more than a decade. Darrell writes:
"Where do I start about Chin's... my parents owned the restaurant I think 1989 to about 2002. We spent a lot of time there obviously and made life time friends. Relationships came out of the restaurant as well as a marriage and child! Though there were only four in our family, I consider our Chin's Crew a part of our family".
"Thank you for leading this GoFundMe on saving the historic sign".
Thanks again to all! We're gettin' there-- keep on sharing!
