Earlier this week, I noticed BB was breathing very strangely and that she was hiding more than usual. As the days passed, I could see it was getting harder for her to breathe and I started to worry. So, this morning I decided to take her to the vet to see what was wrong. I was hoping it was just a cold but it turned out to be much worse.
What I thought was going to be a simple check up turned into her getting x-rays. What they found was built up fluid surrounding her lungs that was pushing them upward, which is what was making it difficult for her to breathe. In order to diagnose her and help her breathing, the doctor needs to perform thoracocentesis, a diagnostic invasive procedure to remove the fluid and do a fluid analysis as well as a blood test.
The doctor speculated that the cause of the fluid build up could be cancer, heart disease, or idiopathic but she can’t tell without proceeding to the next steps.
Today, all I could afford was the x-rays and a lasix injection with medicine to help with her the fluid retention. I didn’t want to get the x-rays done because it was so expensive but the doctor advised against waiting even one more day and that’s when I knew there was something seriously wrong with Bibishca. I only have enough medicine to last a week and a half and the doctor doesn’t even know if BB will be able to last that long without performing the diagnostic procedure and getting bloodwork done.
The overall estimate for an exam, x-rays, thoracocentesis, ace/torb sedation, fluid analysis w/ cytology, cbc/chemistry panel, and total t4 would be $1,049 and that’s not including any medicine or treatment she may need depending on what her results are. I recently was let go from one of my jobs so I now only have one job which pays my rent and utilities and food. I have never done this before, and I already hate asking for money from anyone, but I feel like I have no other choice.
This is my heart, my love, my baby Bibishca and I will do whatever I can to save her. I know I’m asking for a lot, I don’t even expect to raise the whole $1,000 but whatever help I can get, I am so grateful for. I really don’t want to start my new year with the loss of a loved one.
