Save A Local Farming Family

Donation protected
My name is Tracy Bullen. For the past five or so years, I have had the pleasure of photographing a variety of birds on a beautiful 8 acre dam on a farm belonging to Bill Ward, and his sons, Colin and Mark, known as Bilcormak Enterprises, or just 'The Ward Boys'. Apart from being a dam used for the irrigation of their crops, it has been a safe haven to many Black Necked Storks, Ducks, Cormorants and a beautiful pair of Black Swans that would return each year to breed and raise their young on an island in the dam.

Now Bill, Col and Mark's farm has been hit by the drought. The water loss is devastating and they have less than two months of water in it for irrigation. They are desperate as they stand to lose their only source of income. If that happens, they will lose their farm.

The some of the photos show the extent of the drought on the water supply. The dam is their only water source for irrigating the crops that they grow to supply their local community with fresh vegetables, via markets in Maryborough and Hervey Bay. They currently supply over a ton of vegetables directly to their local community every week. Without a source of water they would also have to lay off their employees, two of
whom are family men with young children.

After seeing the devastation caused by the drought, I hope that you will donate and help me save these farmer's livelyhood. They have already suffered through two floods on thier own without help, but without
help, they will not survive through this drought. They will be applying to have their farm drought declared this week.

The guys do not qualify for Government concessional loans or grants for farmers, and with no decent rain forecast until June 2017, they will not survive this drought without help from a caring public.

They have only one option, and that is to drill for water. This is an urgent need for these hard working farmers. After obtaining a quote from a local bore drilling business, it will cost $12,000. This is for the bore only. Any funds raised over that goal will go towards the cost of a bore pump., which they will also need.

The Ward Boys, from what locals have said, are the last commercial small crops farmers in the Maryborough area. I have known the family for over 20 years and have never seen them affected as bad as this before. Even after battling after the two floods without help. There is no back up opportunity for them, as farming is their life.

I will not profit from any of the donations. Updates will be made both here and on their Facebook page under their business name, Bilcormak Enterprises.

I say thank you, on behalf of the Ward Boys.
