Sarah Gonsalves Cancer Fund

My sister Sarah Gonsalves, who is just 32 years old, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 adrenocortical cancer.  This is a very aggressive and extremely rare form of cancer. It was devastating news and quite a shock to our entire family as until recently Sarah had always been very healthy. She underwent major surgery at the end of January to remove one of her adrenal glands, her kidney, and part of her diaphragm and will begin cancer treatment called Mitotane immediately.

For those of you that know my sister, know that if anyone can take on this fight, it's her.  In just the short time that she has been diagnosed with cancer I have been amazed at her strength, courage, perseverance, and upbeat attitude. Being Sarah's oldest brother, I never thought I'd call my younger sister my role model but she continues to amaze me everyday and I can say without any doubt she is more than that, she is my hero.  She is taking on this disease with a fight and determination that even Superman or Batman would be amazed at. We all know that her courage and faith will help her through this.

I am running this campaign in an effort to help make her and her family's life just a little bit easier during this difficult process.  Sarah lives in Hilton Head, South Carolina with her loving husband and two beautiful boys, and her team of doctors are at Dana Farber in Boston.  Rather than uprooting her children and family to move back to Boston, she will be able to stay in Hilton Head and come up to Boston every 8 - 12 weeks for consultations and CT scans and will have local tests in Hilton Head every 2 - 4 weeks.   This will allow her to maintain some sense of normalcy in her life.   Importantly, because her type of cancer is so rare she needs to go to Dana Farber / Brigham & Womens to receive the best possible treatment.

Sarah was hesitant to have me run this campaign as she has never been one to ask for help. More than anything else she would appreciate your thoughts and prayers to help her get through this. However, for those of you that want to make a monetary donation to help her with her medical expenses and through this difficult time, we have set up this page as a way to do so. Thank you so much - your love and support for Sarah is so greatly appreciated.
