Like other communities in the centre of Italy, we, unfortunately, in the past months, have lived the terrible experience of the earthquake. Like all the disasters, this has left behind many victims, both among the population and among the buildings, endangering the artistic, cultural and religious heritage that every small town has. Especially in small villages, such as Monte Urano, that counts just 8,000 souls, the biggest problem is for the old and historical buildings, which represent the hub of the religious and social life of the community.

The economic crisis we were going through before the earthquake had already weakened our fragile economy and left out the possibility of finding funds and donations for the maintenance of our religious buildings. Today after the earthquake, the situation has deteriorated dramatically.

We have lost the building that housed the secondary school,which has been temporarily relocated together with the primary school, but, above all we have lost the practicability of our Church.

In each village the Church is the meeting point of the community, the place where we live and where we have lived the most important moments of our lives. Every citizen has into memory a lived experience in our beloved church. Just think of all the baptisms, communions, confirmations, weddings and last farewell to our beloved deceased. Every one of us from the oldest to the youngest has lived many beautiful moments of his religious life in our San Michele Arcangelo Church.

I still remember the day of my communion: dozens of children lined up, excited and embarrassed, waiting to make the first meeting with our Lord Jesus. Every year new joyful faces alternated at the foot of the altar, and with their relatives and friends shared in that sacred place the joy of love of God. This year, unfortunately, we do not know where we will celebrate the most important ceremonies. For the moment, the municipality has given the availability to the Catholic community of the sporting hall, where we already celebrated Christmas and Epiphany and where, without YOUR HELP, we will probably celebrate Easter and future communions and confirmations.

The building was declared unsable by the technicians of the Civil Protection, following the devastating earthquake of October the 30th, and since that day we are looking for a solution to make it working again for the entire community. We contacted all the experts needed to decide how to fix it, but the main problem is always the same: finding the funds for the restructuring. We started a fundraiser among the inhabitants of our small town but, as I said before, the crisis has taken away many economic resources and it is impossible to obtain the necessary sum with our own strength.

We pray every day God's providence he may teach us the way to go on finding the money necessary for the restructuring and now we are also praying you. Help us to rediscover a safe place where we can pray and bury our dead.

How the money will be spent? The works consist of a progressive detachment of the plaster crumbling with the subsequent securing of the underlying masonry where necessary and restoration of the same with painting. Then will also be installed the "tie rods keys" to all the arcs that form the three aisles of the church to prevent that the same yield under their weight as a result of future sismic events.
Today, more than ever, we need a real help to restore our normality in everyday lives.

Come le altre comunità del centro Italia, anche noi purtroppo, in questi mesi, abbiamo vissuto la terribile esperienza del terremoto. Come tutte le calamità anche questa si è lasciata dietro molte vittime, sia tra la popolazione che tra gli innumerevoli edifici parte del patrimonio artistico culturale e religioso che ogni paese ha. Specialmente nei piccoli paesi come il nostro, Monte Urano, che conta appena poco meno di 8.000 anime il problema si è fatto sentire, soprattutto nei vecchi edifici, che rappresentano , per la comunità, il fulcro della vita religiosa e sociale.
La crisi economica prima del terremoto aveva già indebolito la nostra fragile economia e tolto la possibilità di finanziamenti e donazioni per il mantenimento dei nostri edifici religiosi e non solo. Oggi dopo il terremoto la situazione è drammaticamente peggiorata. Il paese ha perso l’edificio che ospitava la scuola media , ricollocata temporaneamente insieme alla scuola elementare, ma soprattutto abbiamo perso la possibilità di utilizzare la nostra Chiesa Parrocchiale.
In ogni paese la Chiesa rappresenta il punto di incontro della comunità, Il luogo dove si vivono e si sono vissuti i momenti più importanti della nostra vita. La memoria di ogni concittadino ha in se un esperienza vissuta nella nostra cara chiesa. Pensate solo a tutti i battesimi, le comunioni, le cresime i matrimoni e gli estremi saluti ai nostri cari defunti. Ogni uno di noi dal più anziano al più piccolo ha vissuto molti splendidi momenti della propria vita religiosa nella Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Michele Arcangelo.
Ricordo ancora il giorno della mia comunione : decine di bambini in fila, emozionati e impacciati, in attesa di fare il primo incontro con Nostro Signore Gesù. Ogni anno nuovi volti gioiosi si alternavano ai piedi di quell’altare e con loro parenti ed amici condividevano in quel luogo sacro la gioia dell’amore di Dio. Quest’anno purtroppo non sappiamo ancora dove celebreremo le più importanti cerimonie. Per ora il comune ha messo a disposizione della comunità cattolica il palazzetto dello sport , dove abbiamo celebrato il Natale e l’Epifania e dove probabilmente senza il VOSTRO AIUTO, celebreremo anche la Pasqua e le future comunioni e cresime.
L’edificio è stato dichiarato inagibile dai tecnici della Protezione Civile in seguito alla terribile scossa del 30 Ottobre, e da quel giorno che ci siamo mossi per trovare una soluzione per renderlo di nuovo funzionante e al servizio della comunità intera. Sono stati contattati tutti gli esperti necessari per decidere gli interventi da fare ma il nodo da sciogliere resta sempre lo stesso: i fondi per la ristrutturazione non si trovano. Abbiamo iniziato una raccolta fondi nel paese ma , come dicevo prima, la crisi ha tolto molto alla nostra gente e la cifra necessaria è inarrivabile da soli.
Preghiamo ogni giorno la divina provvidenza perché ci indichi la strada da percorrere per trovare i soldi necessari alla ristrutturazione e da oggi preghiamo anche voi . Aiutateci, a ritrovare, se non altro, un luogo sicuro dove poter pregare e dare degna sepoltura ai propri morti.
Come saranno spesi i soldi: le opere consistono in un progressivo distacco dell’intonaco pericolante con la successiva messa in sicurezza della muratura sottostante ove necessario e ripristino dello stesso con tinteggiatura. Andranno poi anche installate delle “chiavi tiranti” per tutti gli archi che costituiscono le 3 navate della chiesa per evitare che gli stessi cedano sotto il loro peso in seguito ad eventi sismici.
Siamo un popolo orgoglioso e non c’è cosa più difficile che mostrarsi deboli ed impotenti quando si è in difficoltà , ma oggi più che mai abbiamo bisogno di un aiuto concreto per riportare alla normalità una parte della nostra vita.
