Malawi is een van de armste landen ter wereld. Veel meisjes gaan niet naar school als zij menstrueren, omdat ze geen maandverband kunnen betalen. Het kost ongeveer 1 weekloon om maandverband te kunnen kopen. Soms gebruiken ze bananenbladeren, oude lappen of watten met gaas. Ongelofelijk. Volgens onderzoek van de VN is menstruatie een belangrijke reden van schooluitval.
Soroptimist International is een NGO die al bijna 100 jaar bestaat en een speciale consultatieve status heeft bij de Verenigde Naties (ECOSOC) en in de Raad van Europa. Soroptimisten zetten zich wereldwijd in om de levensomstandigheden van meisjes en vrouwen te verbeteren. Bijvoorbeeld door de toegang tot onderwijs en de mogelijkheden voor economische zelfstandigheid van vrouwen te vergroten. Soroptimists educate, empower, enable.
Ons doel is om tenminste 1800 meisjes in Malawi naar school te laten gaan, ook als ze ongesteld zijn. Het gaat om 17 scholen in het district Ntichisi. We willen de meisjes een setje AFRIpads, wasbaar maandverband, geven dat ze minimaal 1 jaar kunnen gebruiken. Voor slechts € 5,- (of bijna $ 6,-) kunt u een meisje een betere toekomst geven. GoFundMe werkt met een creditcard, maar donaties kunnen ook rechtstreeks worden overgemaakt op bankrekening NL68 INGB 0662 4045 21 t.n.v. Op 28 mei 2019, de Dag van de Vrouwelijke Hygiëne of Menstrual Hygiene Day, hoopt Soroptimistclub Almere een mooi bedrag te kunnen doneren aan Afripads in Malawi.

Drie van onze clubleden hebben het initiatief genomen voor deze crowdfunding, namelijk Joke van der Sluis, Jetty Slagter en Jacqueline Visser. Annette van Dijk is een ex-collega van Joke van der Sluis. Annette is naar Malawi verhuisd om zich in te zetten voor AFRIpads Malawi. Zij is managing director AFRIpads Malawi. Uw donatie wordt gebruikt om wasbare AFRIpads te kopen en gratis uit te delen aan minimaal 1800 schoolmeisjes op de hierboven genoemde 17 scholen in het district Ntichisi. De keuze voor deze scholen is in samenwerking met de lokale Education Division Manager gedaan, Mr. Billy Banda.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Many girls miss school when they have their period, because they cannot afford disposable sanitary towels. It takes one week's labour to afford the money for disposables. Sometimes they have to use banana leaves or cotton wool. Incredible.

Our goal is to help at least 1800 girls to attend school even when they have their period. We want to give every girl a set of re-usable AFRIpads, that they can use for 1 year or longer. For only 5 euros (or almost 6 dollars) you can give one girl a better future.
On Menstrual Hygiene Day (28-05-2019) Soroptimistclub Almere hopes to donate a substantial amount to AFRIpads Malawi.

We are Soroptimist International, club Almere, from the Netherlands. Three of our club members have taken the initiative for this crowdfunding, namely Joke van der Sluis, Jetty Slagter and Jacqueline Visser. Annette van Dijk is an ex-colleague of Joke van der Sluis. Annette moved to Malawi to work for AFRIpads Malawi. She is managing director AFRIpads Malawi. Your donation will be used to purchase washable AFRIpads and distribute them free of charge to at least 1800 schoolgirls at the 17 schools mentioned above in the Ntichisi district.
