San José Firefighters Who Lost Their Home to Fire
Donation protected
The 2018 wildfires in California had a catastrophic effect on thousands of people.
While we continue to serve the community, donate to members of the public impacted, and help those devastated by the fires, we are also taking this opportunity to help our brothers and sisters in need.
Many firefighters who committed their lives and careers to serving residents in need found that they lost their homes. Several served an entire career only to lose their sole residence in retirement.
This fundraiser is in support of San José fire fighters, active and retired, current and past members of San Jose Fire Fighters IAFF Local 230, who lost their primary residence in the 2018 California wildfires.
Update: We have confirmed that two retired San Jose firefighters lost their homes in the area of Paradise. No active San Jose firefighters are believed to have lost their homes.
Confirmed Home Lost: Jeff Shackelford (ret. 1984)
Confirmed Home Lost: Larry Cantrell (ret. 2003)
More details will be provided on each person affected as updates to this fundraiser.
Donations will be collected from now through March 31, 2019 and then the fundraiser will be closed. All money received (after GoFundMe fee) will immediately be divided equally among all active and retired San José firefighters who lost their primary residence in the 2018 California fires.
A committee of San Jose Fire Fighters Executive Board members and Association of Retired San Jose Police Officers & Firefighters fire Board members will evaluate all applications for inclusion in the benefit distribution.
This fundraiser is being managed by San Jose Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 230 and the Association of Retired San Jose Police Officers & Firefighters.
