On February 1, 2018, Sam and Kymbrlee Smith and their 3 children were traveling home from vacation on I-80. While do not have all the details, authorities believe the truck vered off the road, up and over the guardrail, and collapsed into the embankment on the side of the road underneath the interstate.
Kymbrlee, a wonderful caring wife and mother, who loved the Lord and desired to grow in her relationship with Him, died on impact.
Sam, her husband, was unconscience.
The children, ages 10, 3, and 21 months, were in the backseat. The oldest child, Ryan, was able to get out of his seatbelt and keep his sisters warm while waiting for help to arrive.
They believe it  was 2-3 hours, at least, before they were found because they had fallen onto the road below and were hidden from view of those passing by.

They were found around 5:45 am, and four of them were taken by ambulance to the nearest hosptial. Sam was lifeflighted to the University of Utah Hospital with a brain bleed and several facial fractures.  The children had minor injuries but did not have to be hospitalized.

Friday, February 2nd, Sam continues to improve and is showing responsive signs. He's able to move when the nurses ask him to, lift his arm, squeeze a hand, and tried to open his eyes. His eyes and face are very swollen and he is on a breathing tube.

We rejoice that Kymbrlee had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and is in His presence now.
We know the Great Physician and are praying for the Lord to give complete healing to Sam.
We are praying for the children as they process all that has happened.

Please pray with us for this family.  If the Lord leads you to help financially, here are some of the anticipated needs:
Cost of ambulance transport for 4 people
Lifeflight cost for Sam
Hospital costs
Anticipated need for Physical Therapy
Funeral costs for Kymbrlee
Longterm daily care of Sam and the children.

NOTE: If you prefer to send a check directly to Sam, please make it out to Sam Smith and mail it to his church:

Thank you for your prayers and love for this family.

*Romans 10:9-10, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

Hebrews 7:25, "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

The funeral for Kymbrlee was today at 2:00, and it was a sweet memorial service filled with precious memories. The family put together a slide show to be played at the beginning and end of the service. During the service, Pastor Chappell shared some memories of Kym and presented the gospel clearly in his message. One of Kym's favorite songs - "It Is Not Death To Die" by Steve Pettit was played, followed by Kym's co-workers who came to present white roses on her casket as the Nightingale poem was read to honor her service as a nurse. Kym's Father and Sam both spoke, and they did a great job, sharing beautiful memories. Sam's sisters sang "It Is Well With My Soul" at the close of the service.

The graveside service was done by Sam's brother-in-law, Tim. He shared that one of Kym's greatest desires was to see her family and friends come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Salvation is a free gift. We can't do anything to earn salvation. It's offered to us all freely, based on what Christ did for us on the cross, and putting our faith in Him alone! All we have to do is accept it. Have you?

Following the funeral, the family and out of town friends returned to Sam's church for a meal and time of fellowship with one another. We are all so grateful for the almost 300 people that attended the funeral to show their love and support for Sam.

The funeral was live streamed from Sam's Facebook page, and has had over 700 views already! You will find it at this link: https://www.facebook.com/sam.smith.1401?hc_ref=ARTqWimjBwCfXuxU8d7L2bVMpk6QOSopUM2-j04e0f2SZmL2o5R9fp_1l0Z9lgvZz54

Please continue to pray for Sam and his family as they adjust to life in the coming days and weeks.

Thank you for your support and continued prayers for Sam and his children! The kids got home Wednesday afternoon, and family and friends are beginning to come into town for the funeral.
Sam continues to heal--he is a walking miracle! His hip is bothering him, but he is managing. The swelling in his eyes continues to go down each day.
Please continue to pray for Sam as he makes arrangements for Kymbrlee's Funeral on Saturday.

Sam has continued to improve over the last couple of days, and was released from the hospital today! We are praising the Lord for this miracle!
Please continue to pray for Sam as he returns home this afternoon. Some of his family will be arriving from out of state today, and will bring the children home later on this evening. This will give him some time to get settled.
The next few days will be difficult - returning home without his wife, making funeral arrangements, and difficult decisions, and the Funeral on Saturday, February 10th at 2pm MST.

Sunday, February 4 -
Sam had a restless night last night, but a good day today, and is exhausted.
He was moved to a regular room (Praise the Lord!) and with the help of a Physical Therapist was able to get up again to walk a little (very short distances--to the restroom, a little ways down the hall). His back and hips are very sore, but the muscle in his leg continues to heal.

Sam's children were able to see him today! Because of the trauma to Sam's head and eyes, he put on sunglasses for when they saw him so they wouldn't be alarmed. They wanted to see behind the glasses while they were there, and had a good visit with their Daddy.

A marine friend, Bubba, has been with Sam today, and has been a great encouragement to him. (Thank you Bubba!)

The biggest praise today is that Sam will NOT need surgery on his face!! The surgeon showed Sam's family the x-rays/CT scans, and said that the bone below his temple is broken, but it's a clean brake and will heal on it's own. He said the bones above his eyes (not below) are broken and will also heal on their own. Praise the Lord for this wonderful news and miracle!

Psalm 3:2-5 "Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked for the Lord sustained me."
