Sam's story......
Anyone who has the pleasure of knowing Sam, knows that what you see is what you get. He is one of the most genuine, kind, gentle souls to walk this earth. He would show up for anyone, anytime. He needs us, we must show up for him. Sam has been living with an illness for the last ten plus years. Most people would be unaware of this. He kept it very private for many reasons. Embarrasement and not wanting to ever be a burden being the two main ones.
For the first few years we didn't know what he was dealing with. Doctors never could diagnose it.  As it progressed we started to get closer to answers. We finally were able to label it and unfortunately there is no cure.
In 2013 & 2014 he left Chicago to come to Tennessee where our parents, myself and our oldest brother now reside. He had 2 surgeries with the hope that the outcome would lead to some relief. Recovery was long and painful. It took him away from work he loves and friends that are family. Once, he felt he could function at a somewhat comfortable level, he went back to Chicago.
Here we are 3 years later and his situation is severe. He has once again left behind his life in Chicago. When he told us he needed to come back, we knew it must be unbearable. After seeing a local Doctor, we were warned of a life altering or death situation. We took him to Vanderbilt where he is currently being treated for infection. Because there is no cure and not even a recipe for remission, we are left with nothing but speculations & experminenting.
Our goal,  is to gain some quality of life. He is far too young, far too talented, far too precious to have a life of darkness & severe discomfort. Our father is retired and our mom is Sam's number one caretaker.
How can you help? Any assitance would be beyond generous and  appreciated more than can be expressed. I know not everyone can donate monetarily, so I ask then, that you pray, send positive juju, write a card, light a candle, whatever you do to find peace and encouragement.
On behalf of Sam, my parents and all of my siblings, we thank you in advance.
