On Sunday, September 2, 2018, around 2am, an intruder had entered my parents’ property. Sammy, our pit bull, had heard some noise and went outside to investigate. Shortly after, a gunshot was heard, waking up my father and brother. Both went to front door (not fully realizing what had happened) and saw that Sammy was limping back to the door. The reality set in when they noticed there was a hole in Sammy’s back and that he had been shot!! Sammy was rushed to the emergency vet. The bullet shattered and broke his femur! The veterinarian had asked my father if he wanted to euthanize him or undergo surgery. My father was quick to respond and said, “NO WAY! He saved my life, I have to save his life!”
On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, the earliest that a surgeon was available due to the Labor Day weekend, Sammy, our brave, heroic pit bull, underwent surgery. Sammy had to get the largest plate available to put his right leg back together. A rod and pin was installed to hold it in place. He also had to have shattered bone pieces removed from the injured area. The cost of the surgery is $12,000! He is back home and doing better. His recovery time will be a long 6-8 weeks. But that length of time is extremely short compared to the forever memory of what happened on Sunday. My family and I are still in shock and all kinds of emotions are flowing through us . . . especially fear, rage, and sadness.
If you would like to support us in any way, whether it is a donation to help with surgery cost or simply sending your love, healing energy, and prayers during this difficult time, we humbly and gratefully appreciate it.
Infinite gratitude,
The Ho Family (this includes Sammy Ho as well)
