Samke's Third Year University Fees

Donation protected
Quick update: Angel has used the additional funds raised to complete a 3-month Ancillary Nursing Course and, on June 15, started a full-time position at a local hospital!

Feed a (wo)man to feed, you'll feed her for a day; teach a (wo)man to fish and you'll feed her for a life!

This story starts in 2009.

My grandmother, Sheil, was in need of a carer at home in South Africa. We found a lady called Angel. Angel was Sheil's angel at home.

Sheil passed away in 2010.

Angel has 2 children, Samke and Siya. Since Angel is a Caregiver by profession, her jobs come and go on a contract basis.

I have known these children for the past 8 years and I want to see them succeed.

Samke, is Angel's daughter. She is incredibly smart, polite, humble, hard-working, funny and never complains. Throughout high school, even though Angel would have to wash the children's clothes in the nearby river, Samke was always turned out in a crisp, white collarded shirt as part of her school uniform.

Samke is now in Year 3 of a 4-year Accounting Degree in South Africa through UNISA. Angel has not had a job for 4 months. Angel and Samke have until Feb 28, 2017 to come up with the $500 annual university fees or Samke will be turned away from school.

This CANNOT happen. Samke is part of South Africa's "Lost Generation".

Please, I emplore you to watch the clip below.

Until the solution is found by the government, please could you help us "tread softly because we tread on the dreams of a lost generation," and make a contribution to this goal of $500 by March 31, 2017.

I will personally update you on the progress of Samke's education, post updated pictures and make sure you know the impact your contribution (as big or small as it may be) is having on the life of one of South Africa's brightest youth who is part of the "Lost Generation."

Thank you from Angel, Samke, Siya and myself.

Sidenote: People have asked me for what cause I am hiking the Appalachian Trail. I have never had a cause. But now I do. So, if you'd like to support me on my solo hike of the 2,186-mile Appalachian Trail, please feel free to support me by supporting Samke. Thanks everyone! - Kelly
