HELP RESTORE MY 1969 PAINTING

I (Salvador Roberto Torres, Chicano Art Pioneer, Chicano Park Visionary and Muralist) was selected to have my 1969 oil painting "Viva La Raza" exhibited for the California State Senate's 2017-2018 California Contemporary Art Collection at the State Capitol in Sacramento.   What an honor!

This painting was created at the beginning of the Chicano Art Movement.   I painted this oil in 1969 in response to derogatory advertising about the Chicano Community and our culture that was published in Life Magazine by the San Diego Gas & Electric Company.  It has traveled to 11 national museums and has become and icon of the Chicano Movement.  I'm happy that it will be displayed again, this time at our State's Capitol, especially during this challenging political climate.

I have taken this painting to Balboa Park's Art Conservation Center (BACC)  for restoration and conservation before it is shipped which we hope to be around May 31, 2017.  Chief Conservator, Alexis Miller, has provided an estimate for this work.  I hope you will donate and assist in the effort to restore this cultural treasure for others to enjoy.

If I have ever given you a tour of Chicano Park, spoken to your class or community or shared my time and knowledge with you, this would be a great time to support this cause.    The State was expecting me to ship this off by May 31, 2017.  However, I will leave this fundraising campaign open for a few more days.   Please donate as soon as you are able.

All donors will be acknoweldged in a letter to the State Senate.  Thank you so very much. Anyone donating $500.00 or more, will receive a signed, dated, numbered and limited print of my most recent work which are watercolor images telling the Mayan story of the birth of corn.
