Rebuild Salamander Ranch!!

What started as a small project became one hell of a masterpiece. Five years, a few gritty cronies, any filler they could get their hands on, some concrete... ok, a great deal of concrete, a couple six packs, and a whole lot of heart,  became what is now known as Salamander Ranch.

It only took one, early yet easily dismissible mistake and now it will all be demolished. Just like that. Gone. It’s devastating, the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that were put into Salamander Ranch will now be a mere memory. Unless, we rebuild it. We may have to succumb to the powers that be and destroy the “unpermitted construction”, but the same tenacity and determination that got us here is ready to reconstruct a better, stronger, and (unfortunately) most important, a more legal Salamander Ranch.

Challenge, accepted.

An estimated minimum of $7500 will afford the tear down, hauling out, and rebuild of a 3’, legally permitted bowl.

THE HISTORY:
In June of 2010,  at a very 'top secret' and 'highly classified' location of Southern California, Eric Peters, aka my big bro, aka The Salamander, began a small project to keep him busy while an injury kept him from his one, true love, skateboarding.

You see, Eric is not the most talented when it comes to sitting around and doing nothing, it’s just not in his blood. He’s been working on something since as long as I can remember, whether the rest of us understood why or not. He’s always been a skateboarder, since before it was “cool” and long after my definition of cool even mattered anymore. He’s been skating since before he could walk… well, maybe not, but if you know him you know that it is the one constant in his life that has brought him joy since he was a very young child. So, when this relatively small project turned into a five year, ever-evolving masterpiece earning the name Salamander Ranch, it not only proved that his love for the sport was far more than a short-lived fad but that the incredible talents he does possess fall nothing short of admirable, and personally I wasn’t surprised. A passion so pure and so genuine is inspirational, whether you skateboard or not. And so is Salamander Ranch.



THE CAUSE:
Now, I may be a little bias, because of course as any little sister knows, my big brother will always be bigger than life, someone to look up to, and even in our 30’s he will always be way cooler than me. What he, with the help of a small group of skateboard loving buddies built, with no previous design or concrete experience, using every inch of spare time on the weekends, between full-time jobs and families, sparing no ounce of energy, attest to just how truly remarkable he, his faithful buddies, and his downright badass creation is. It is that true grit that fuels my determination to make this campaign a success.

As extraordinary as my badass big bro is, admittedly, he made the mistake of letting his growing excitement get the best of him and dismiss the fact that he really should have gotten a permit for this thing years ago. Nonetheless, my heart utterly broke when he told me suddenly, he has to tear it all down, that due to an anonomously filed complaint for “unpermitted construction” everything he imagined and then created has only six months to be gone. Not only is he forced to tear down 5 years of hard work built on 1+ acre of privately owned property, but he has to pay the city to do so. A demo permit, dumpster rentals, a bobcat, a jackhammer, an industrial cutter (whatever that is, it’s expensive), the cost to haul and “dump” each load of concrete and have it “certified”, etc., etc…. the cost is outrageous, but yet, it is far less than the fight to keep it standing. So, that is what he will do, he will begrudgingly tear it down, haul it out, and REBUILD it, and this time officially permitted and to city regulations. A hired contractor would cost an estimated $20k for the demo and haul away alone.

Lesson learned. The hard way.


MY PLEA:
I don’t just respect, but I greatly admire that kind of determination and resolve. All of that blood, sweat, and tears that were put into this “skate wonderland” will not be destroyed along with it! So, Let's do this! Let's Rebuild Salamander Ranch!


THE NITTY GRITTY:

Tools and equipment-
Used jackhammer already                         purchased $200
Bobcat rental $800
Industrial concrete saw rental + tax       per day, needed for roughly 2-4 days     $340
Approx 10 yard dumpsters @ $200/ dumpster $2000
Permit for demolition  $900
Labor-
approx 1 twelve pack per volunteer $200+
Total: $4440
If we reach our goal of $7500 the left over $ will go towards the rebuild, which is estimated to cost at least $3000
