Save India Farmers and Naam

Donation protected
Many people are unaware that farmers in India have been committing suicide at an alarming rate. In 2014, the National Crime Records Bureau of India reported as many as 5,650 farmer suicides. The highest was 18,241 in 2004.  Reasons include monsoon failure, public mental health, government policies, and high debt burdens. In the last 20 years, close to 300,000 farmers have killed themselves by ingesting pesticides or by hanging themselves.

I would like your help to raise a total of $1500 that we can donate to Save Indian Farmers and Nana Patekar's foundation NAAM. I know we can achieve the goal with each other's help!!

Now about this song. Sagara Pran Talamalala, or Ne Majasi Ne, has been a song close to my heart since I was a kid. My parents both immigrated to the US from Mumbai, Maharashtra (Maharashtra state, with 60,000 farmer suicides, tops the list of Farmer suicide). This song is about missing your motherland. The poet, Veer Savarkar, was a freedom fighter who was captured by the English and transported to Britain. He jumped out of the ship to escape but unfortunately ended up on the French shore where the British captured him again.

I selected this song for this cause since both evoke very strong emotions in the observer. Also they are both about India and specifically the State of Maharashtra.

I have included the translation of the song in the video so everybody can understand what it is about. The song is addressed to the ocean, whom the poet is very mad at for separating him from his homeland. The original song was sung by the very prominent Mangeshkar family. I hope you enjoy my rendition!

A special thanks to my team who helped make this happen: Satchith Harve, Phillip (PHILM), Niranjan Nayar, and Kaumil Shah
