Mission
#Safeword’s mission is to reduce sexual assault in communities by promoting education, sensitivity training, and sexual assault prevention methods to the individuals in the community.
Background
“With So Much Drama In The AUC…”
Publicly addressing sexual assault can be challenging. However, recently at Morehouse and Spelman, signs naming alleged rapists were hung around the college campus. Shortly thereafter, a photo of King’s Chapel went viral after the walls were spray-painted with the message, “Practice What You Preach Morehouse #EndRapeCulture.”
While speaking with a few students from Clark Atlanta University (CAU), they mentioned how students at CAU also feel victimized by the sexual culture in the Atlanta University Center (AUC). They highlighted the term “Consensual Rape” and stated that on multiple occasions, they had been coerced into saying “Yes” at times when they were in fear of what might happen to them should they say “No.”
Funds Raised
The $3,000 will go towards:
Nonprofit certification fees
#Safeword Apparel
A sexual assault awareness poster competition
A sexual health & education video series
Any additional funds raised will go towards implementing our other #Safeword initiatives.
