Sac DSA - Help us go to the National Convention!

Sacramento DSA has the opportunity to send 13 delegates to the 2019 DSA National Convention in Atlanta, GA on August 2 - 4! We don't have as much funds available as larger chapters, but our goal is to make sure our delegates can afford the costs of attending the convention without putting the financial burden on them personally.
DSA’s National Convention is an incredibly important event for the national organization, as well for our chapter locally. Once every two years, delegates from every chapter and at-large members from across the country come together to vote for the National Political Committee (a sixteen-person body which functions as the board of directors of DSA), set priorities for the national organization, and pass resolutions that will affect the national organization in a variety of ways. Delegates also get the opportunity to attend workshops to strengthen their organizing skills and have time to meet with the various DSA caucuses and fellow DSA members from across the country to form greater potential for cross-chapter coordination. The skills our delegates get the opportunity to strengthen and the connections they make with members from other chapters will be brought back to our chapter to help us better organize in the area our chapter encompasses.
Airfare costs are currently about $500 for a round-trip ticket, registration is between $65 - $215, lodging is $119.50, and we would like to be able to reimburse our delegates for incidentals such as rides and meals, if possible. National will have some cost sharing and stipends to help, but our delegates will most likely need to pay for airfare, registration and lodging in advance of any National funding that may come their way, so we are hoping to raise at least $8,000 by the end of June! If there happens to be any money remaining after our delegates’ costs are taken care of, any remaining amount we have fundraised would go to the chapter’s general fund for much needed chapter supplies such as educational/organizing literature, a projector for our General Membership Meetings, etc.
