Hey! My name is Coltyn Cody and I’m a senior in high school at Denver School of the Arts. For the past four years that I’ve attended DSA, I’ve been studying visual arts, pursuing what I’m passionate about so I can match my passion with skill. However, my time here is coming to an end and I’m moving onward and upward toward a higher education—BUT not without some help!
In choosing which college to attend, I first decided on a location—the Pacific Northwest. I did my research and eventually travelled up to the land of rain and Starbucks where I toured several schools, both art schools and more academically focused institutions. Out of the several schools I visited and learned about, one stood out from the rest: Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. The absolutely gorgeous campus and structure of the school led me to the conclusion that it’s the place where I’m meant to be. After the application process (egad what a process it was) I received my acceptance letter and needless to say, I was overjoyed—from both my visit and the Facebook group for potential incoming freshmen, I’m positive about just how perfect this school is for me. But! My financial situation made like that infamous Portland weather and brought on some dark clouds.
Between scholarships and loans, I’m left with a gap in my tuition. My family and I having done everything we can to lessen the gap, I’m turning to what resources the 21st century has to offer me…that’s right, I’m crowdfunding! One of the many blessings that exists alongside self-driving cars and hover boards is the ability to use this platform to bring my message to my community and ask for help where help is needed. I don’t think it’s necessary to patronize anyone and explain why college is important, but I must emphasize the importance of the right college. And so I sincerely and humbly ask help from anyone with the capacity to do so; please give what you can. It means so much to both me and my family, who’ve already done so much in helping to get me this far, that I’m able to make it to that next step.
