RHS Robotics - Super Regionals Trip

Donation protected
On February 13, 2016 the Ridgeview High School Robotics Team, FTC Team 10358 Squatch Watch, competed in the 2015-2016 Virginia FTC State Championship in Doswell, VA. The state championship is composed of 52 robots spilt into two 26 team divisions. Throughout the qualification rounds the team went 4-1, placing them in 4th place. The team was then selected to be on the number 2 seeded alliance, where they dominated their division. Playing 3 semi-final matches and 3 finals matches, the Squatch Watch wasn't done yet. They went on to play in the VA FTC State Championship rounds, defeating the other division in 2 straight wins. The Squatch Watch represented Southwest Virginia well and has obtained the FIRST State Title in Ridgeview High School History.

The next step for Squatch Watch is to compete in the East Super Regional Competition in Scranton, PA.  The Super Regional Competition will be March 18-20, 2016.  During this competition Ridgeview High School will compete once again against other teams who qualified from Virginia as well as teams from Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.  There will be a total of 72 robots in the Super Regionals Competition.  This is not just a competition between robots, but an opportunity for the team members to be the recipients of scholarships and internship offers with prestigous engineering companies.

Competing in the Super Regionals is a testament of the hard work and dedication shown by the members of this team.  The team has worked many hours designing, building, and programming the robot.  The success the team has experienced is because of their determination to reach perfection.  This first year team has went through the Southwest Qualifier and the Virginia State Competition leaving a positive impression with other teams, mentors, and judges.  They represent Dickenson County with pride and show other teams and individuals respect with every interaction.

As you can imagine, all of this comes with a price.  Up to this point we have been funded solely on grants and donations from businesses and organizations.  While we are very appreciative of the companies and organizations who have supported us, we are now asking for members of the community to help us advance to the Super Regional Competition.  The competition is a 5 day, 4 night event at Scranton University.  We need your help to make this trip a success.

Thank you for your donation.  You are making a difference in the future of the kids on this team.

A little more about FIRST robotics:
FIRST robotics is a non-profit organization whose goal is to assist students in opportunities in math, science, engineering and technology.  Students have the opportunity to get “hands-on” programming and rapid-prototyping experience while applying real-world math and science concepts. They develop problem-solving, organizational and team-building skills. An emphasis is placed on “gracious professionalism.” It is an avenue to transform the culture by engaging students in mentor-based programs which foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication and leadership. The Ridgeview High School team has used a modular robotics platform to conceive, build, and compete.
