Below is an update from the Family:

On behalf of the Kaplan family, we would like to provide an update and thank this amazing community for the continuous outpouring of support, love, and prayers.

Sophia arrived home yesterday, September 17, and was greeted by an amazing group of friends and neighbors. Not only did the community line the streets outside the Kaplan home but they decorated the driveway and made signs to welcome Sophia. This outpouring of love left Sophia in high spirits.

Emma has been staying at a friend’s house for several days and is scheduled to return home today, September 18.

Both Emma and Sophia have many broken bones, will be in wheelchairs for the foreseeable future, and have a long road of physical therapy ahead. Friends and neighbors spent hours hammering away to make the Kaplan home wheelchair accessible. While both girls miss Erin desperately-the strength and resolve they have shown while dealing with unbearable pain has astonished the doctors. Close friends and family, however, have not been surprised, as Erin’s spirit is clearly shining through in these amazing girls that she raised. We’re sure both girls would greatly appreciate continued support and visits-which are being coordinated through neighbors and Faran.

Ben has made great progress in the last couple days but remains in the ICU. He is scheduled to have a major surgery today. The doctors are still limiting visitors but we will update once Ben continues to heal as to how the community can best support him.

Jeanne, Erin’s mother, has recently been released from the hospital and is also staying at the Kaplan home while she recovers from her substantial injuries.

Faran, Ben, Emma, and Sophia have been overwhelmed with the kindness shown to them. The support of this community continues to provide them strength during this unimaginably difficult time. They have asked us to thank each one of you for your support, especially your time and prayers, from the bottom of their hearts. Please continue to support this family and share their story as their difficult journey has only just begun.

To all that have donated, thank you so much. I'm sure the family will appreciate it. As of right now the son is still fighting. No donation is big or small, but coming together like this is amazing. Please continue to spread and share the word, so this family won't have a financial burden during this tragic loss.
