Going for the Gold
My name is Jake Prichard, and I am a 16 year old freeskier from Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, NY. I have had a great season training and competing, and I appreciate all the support I have received so far.
Just as my ski season was winding down, I received an invitation to participate in the US Freeski Team’s “Project Gold Camp”, held in early May at Mammoth Mountain, CA. Invitations to this camp are only extended to the top 25 amateur slopestyle athletes in the country, based on competition results during the ski season. I am honored to be chosen to participate in this prestigious training camp. This is a great opportunity to work with US Freeski Team coaches and train alongside the top junior skiers in the country.
My long term goal is to become a pro skier, someday earning a spot on the US Freeski Team and competing in events such as the Winter X-Games and the Winter Olympic Games.
Although it has been a long and rewarding season, the costs of training, competing and traveling have really added up. My funding has been exhausted at this point, and the cost of this camp is not something we had planned for. The total cost of the camp is $2700. The camp will be held May 4-11, which does not give me much time to come up with the funds I will need to participate.
These are my competition results from the 2014-2015 winter season:
Most notably, I ended the season with:
-National Slopestyle Champion at USASA Nationals (age 16-18) at Copper, CO, proudly taking home the gold.
-3rd place in the 16-18 age group (6th place overall) at USSA Jr. Nationals slopestyle at Park City, UT
In USASA Rail Jam:
-1st and 5th places at USASA Adirondack Series events
-2nd place at Stowe, VT
-8th place at USASA Nationals at Copper, CO
In USASA Slopestyle:
-Three 1st place finishes at USASA Adirondack Series events
-2nd place at Empire State Games (USASA qualifier)
-1st place overall in the USASA Adirondack Series for the season
USSA Eastern Freeski Tour (slopestyle):
-45th place at Okemo, VT
-3rd place at Waterville Valley, NH
-1st place at Eastern Freeski Championships at Sugarloaf, ME
US Revolution Tour (slopestyle):
-32nd place at Seven Springs, PA
Carinthia Freeski Open (slopestyle):
-3rd place in amateur division (17th place overall) at Mt. Snow, VT
