Funeral and Burial Cost for Silic Nia

Tax deductible
Silic Nai died unexpectedly Saturday, November 3rd.

Silic came to the United States with hundreds of other refugees in 2001 after fleeing their villages as young children due to the war.

Silic's death has been extremely hard on his brothers and mother in South Sudan and his "family" and community here in Vermont.
.
The community and Silic's loved ones are grieving deeply.

We are asking for your help in the funeral cost for Silic's Mass and burial tomorrow, Saturday, November 17th.

We need your help to cover the cost of his funeral and burial.

Here is the eulogy his beloved younger brother wrote for Silic.

Late Silic Yiel joined primary school at the age of 7 years in Anuol town before finishing his primary school; he joined the SPLA/movement in 1985 as a member of Red Army.  Which is now called the Lost Boys of Sudan.  Their story is harrowing and profoundly moving.  Huge numbers of children and children and others died traveling by foot across Sudan to Ethiopia where Silic resumed his studies and finished his primary education.

Later, after being chased out of Ethiopia, the thousands of child refugees made there way to the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Northern Kenya following the fall of the Mengistu regime in 1991.

While in Kakuma, late Silic joined Secondary School for four years and completed his studies and obtained Secondary School certificate in Sciences.

He was known as a great leader of the minor group in the Sudanese at Kakuma Refugee Camp.   He also was a group leader and worked as a social worker by helping his colleagues in solving problems in difficult situations through his knowledge and his own experience of extreme hardships.

What he experienced as a child during a horrific war where children had to flee their villages, take up arms or just try to get to safety by traveling with 1,000’s of other displaced children is believed to have caused him mental health issues which persisted for quite a number of years until he went to the United States of America.

In 2001, Silic went on emigration visa to the USA where he first settled in Philadelphia and later on moved to Vermont to continue with his higher education at the Community College of Vermont .

He remained in Vermont until he passed away on November 3, 2018.

Late Silic was a true believer who cherished everybody without discrimination; segregation or bad feelings to any sectional group when he was a youth back home.

Despite his struggles with mental illness and not having adequate mental health treatment in Vermont the late Silic managed to educate his younger brother Mr. Mabor Yiel until he successfully completed his undergraduate studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics in 2015 in Juba.

Silic did not get an opportunity to meet Mabor when he returned to find his family and find his mother after more than 23 years of separation.

Silic will be missed deeply by his younger brothers and his mother.

He will always be remembered as a hard working person, friendly and kind and a person with a heart of humanity.

All of the community of Sudanese here in Vermont and in other communities across the United States also mourns deeply his loss.

All donations toward Silic Nai's burial and funeral expense are tax deductibe and are initally going to  SUDEF (The Sudan Development Foundation 5013C) due to GoFundMe not linking the The Sudanese Foundation of Vermont.  SUDEF will transfer all money raised to The Sudanese Foundation of Vermont which is also a 5013C organization and serves the Sudanese community here in Vermont.

We thank you in advance for your help.  There are so many who understand the hardships of refugee communities living in this country and in the state of Vermont and we are so appreciative for your help with dear Silic's funeral cost.
