Springfield Middle Band Instruments

The Springfield Middle School Band is a grade 6-8 Band program in Springfield, TN.  We are a very low-income and highly diverse area that has almost 80 percent of students qualify for free and reduced lunch.  The SMS Band provides opportunities for students to begin learning many band instruments in a positive and warm environment.  The students perform many types of music and compete in competitions in the area.  Recently, the SMS Band received excellent ratings at a local festival and won first prize for the best middle school concert band at the Southern Star Music Festival in Atlanta, GA.


The Band was recently featured on the local news: WKRN Channel 2- Springfield Middle School Band beats obstacles to take 1st place.

The Band has grown from 34 members in August 2014 to 70 in March 2015.  While this growth is very exciting, over sixty percent of students depend on the school to provide their instruments due to lack of money at home.  The Band has received donations in the past, but equipment, including instruments, is running very low.  Going into next year, we look to have close to 100 members in the Band.  Our equipment will not be able to make it without outside funding.

This Band provides students with opportunities they would never have otherwise.  The students in this Band are a representation of this town and lift the spirits of commmunity as a whole.  By giving to this cause, you will not only lift up this Band, but also the school and the city of Springfield.
