Holiday Bags for the Houseless
Donation protected
My name is Catherine L. Datuin and I am a Concerned Citizen (and Change Agent) of homeless issues in my own hometown. I was previously the Site Manager for one of the largest homeless services organizations known as The Affordable Housing and Homeless Alliance, a Campaign Manager for the Aloha United Way raising money for homeless organizations, and a street reporter for Street Beat Newspaper. I have also volunteered with the Will Feed Homeless Outreach and other projects involving homeless issues here on O'ahu.
Being that I've done a number of outreaches with some of these groups, I've been fortunate enough to have been made privy to the lifestyles and issues that affect the chronically homeless in the North Shore and Wahiawa area. Not only is there no shelter in this area, but there is a lack of affordable housing to help house these individuals that need a home. I'd like to ask for your donations for this project so that around 300+ carebags can be made for those in need this season.
Once the money is recieved, I will find an entity that will help me purchase the food at my local foodbank then shop for toiletry items at Costco. My partner, Leah Koonce, will also be helping me with the distribution of these bags through an all day (or two day if needed) outreach session on the streets, beaches, and woods of both areas (Volunteers encouraged to participate!) I'm also looking at having a local school draw holiday pictures on paper bags to enclose these care packages.
I will need to recieve this funding no later than:
January 2nd, 2016 to ensure I have enough time to gather the items for the project before i leave to go back out of state (since I live in Las Vegas).
This project means so much to me because I would like to help those in need within my own community (some of who I grew up with) while allowing for others in the community to help.
I appreciate any donations that can be given!
(Every dollar counts!)
Mahalo Nui Loa for your help!
