Ryder's Rainboots

$7,645 of $7,000 goal

Raised by 152 people in 6 months
Hi! I'm Ryder and I'm 7 years old. Welcome to year 2 of Ryder’s Rainboots!

I was driving with my Mom last September and we drove through downtown. It was pouring rain. There were lots of people living on the streets without shoes. This isn't fair. Have you ever had wet feet? It's not nice. I wanted to give my boots away right there. My little brother said sadly: “no, those are Ryder’s Rainboots”  -- and that is when I thought of my fundraising idea!

So, with my Mom and Dad's help, I started this project “Ryder's Rainboots” to raise money to buy new rain boots for people living in poverty in my community. With your help last year, we raised $2,548 last year and bought 68 pairs of rain boots and ponchos or rain suits for men, women, and kids. We also bought socks and gloves for everyone. I wrote cards that read: “Hope these boots keep your feet dry. From Ryder’s Rainboots xoxo”. My small idea turned into something very big and special. Thank you for helping me.

This year, my goal is to raise $3,000 before Canadian Thanksgiving – that is a lot of money but I think we can do it! I will pick out the boots myself and write notes to everyone again. I want to get 300 people to like my page. I also want to have a raffle and other fundraisers – so stay tuned!

So, will you help by liking and sharing my page and donating if you can? I want people to have fun and jump in the puddles, and most of all, feel like someone cares for them. Thank you for your support.

Ryder xo

The 2nd annual Ryder's Rainboots campaign was a gigantic success! Instead of raising $3,000, I raised over $7,000 -- thank you to all of you who believed in me. That means in the last 2 years I have raised over $10,000 to buy rain gear for people in need!! Thank you to GoFundMe for calling me a Kid Hero - COOL!

I raised more than I could have expected... so right now my mom and I are coordinating with the shelter to see what other rain and winter gear they need. We already bought and delivered 100 rainy day kits. I think we have enough to buy 100 more!! It's been really cold and wet here. We will be putting in another order ASAP to make sure your donation goes to good use. I want to make sure that kids without rain gear are prepared for the rain and snow. It's back to school tomorrow and kids need to be warm and dry!!

A lot has happened over the last couple of weeks. I had a nice Christmas holiday with my family. It was my birthday after Christmas and I turned 8 years old. I had time off school and have been thinking about the 3rd annual Ryder's Rainboots campaign. I can't wait! Maybe you will consider supporting me again?!

Thank you everyone. Stay tuned for year 3 of Ryder's Rainboots ( www.facebook.com/rydersrainboots) in the next few months.

Hi everyone -- It's Ryder (with some typing help from my Mum) -- and oh my goodness! What an amazing week!

First, we handed out $3,021 worth of raingear to men, women, and kids living in poverty in our community. We set up a table at the shelter and one by one people came to meet me and get their gear. I gave each person a pair of boots, warm gloves, thermal socks, a toque, and a rain poncho (or Muddy Buddy for the kids). I also gave them a handmade card that I wrote for them that said "Hope these boots keep your feet dry. Love Ryder's Rainboots xoxo" and I picked out a nice sticker for each. We gave out 100 rainy day 'kits' -- that's right -- 100!! That means we bought for 32 more people than last year (in 2016 together we raised $2,548 and bought for 68 people). I loved meeting people, hearing their stories, and even sharing a joke or a cool new handshake. I gave the shelter a piece of art I made for them too -- they are going to hang it in their dining room for all to see. The local paper came and so did the GoFundMe team to take some photos. Here is the newspaper article:

Then last night I found out that GoFundMe picked me as a GoFundMe Hero! A hero? Really? I think that is pretty awesome. I hope it inspires people to do something. I am only 7 and a half and came up with this idea when I was 6. It was pretty simple -- nothing special really. I think that if you see a need, you should just do something. Since the GoFundMe Hero article was posted, an amazing $1,700 extra dollars came rolling in! This means I can buy even more raingear for people at the shelter and for kids living in poverty so they can have proper rain gear too! Can you imagine not being able to jump in puddles? I can't! Kids need to have boots to jump in puddles! So I decided to raise my goal to $5,000 and extra money raised will buy even more rainy day kits!

If you want to hear more, be sure to visit and like and share my Facebook page. It is www.facebook.com/rydersrainboots -- maybe I can get to 400 likes!

I can't wait to buy more rain gear. And I am already planning next year's campaign - the third annual Ryder's Rainboot campaign!

Thanks for supporting Ryder's Rainboots!
