Ryan P. Schroeder Scholarship Fund

$34,720 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 314 people in 14 months
In loving memory of Ryan Schroeder, his family is starting a scholarship fund for students graduating from Duxbury High School.

A graduate of DHS in 2010, Ryan was a multi-sport varsity athlete and was named Captain of the Varisty Hockey team his Senior Year. As a captain, teammate, classmate, and friend, Ryan was a connecting force. He brightened, stregthened, and energized those around him and led others to live life to the fullest. In Ryan's memory, his family would like to establish this Scholarship Fund in order to recognize and celebrate in others the qualities that his family so loved. In the coming years, this fund and the memory of our beloved Ryan will be remembered through a series of fundraising events: Hikes, Ski Trips, and other activities that Ryan was passionate about.

Ryan's family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers sent his way.  Your love and friendship means so much and has and continues to be a blessing during these difficult days.

As we approach the six month reminder of the loss of our beloved Ryan, we wanted to share
an update that we received recently from the city of Baltimore. The installation of safety ladders and life rings are presently underway. Thanks to your kind and generous donations, Ryan’s fund has contributed $10,000. Included in next year’s budget is the installation of railings along the waterfront. Nothing will ease our broken hearts, but we will find some solace in Ryan’s legacy that this tragedy will hopefully not be repeated. Thank you for your love, unending words of support, friendship, and kindness. And thank you to all who have so generously contributed to Ryan’s Scholarship Fund.

Four months ago the unthinkable happened and we lost our beautiful son Ryan. Everyone wanted to do something to help prevent this tragedy from happening again and also start a scholarship fund in his honor. Both are happening. Last night, May 30 2018, was scholarship and awards night at Duxbury High. With the aid of the guidance department a fantastic male and female received an award from Ryan’s fund. The lovely young women is off to Ryan’s alma mater, St. Michael’s college and the young man is going to UVM. It was nice to be among so many vibrant young men and women but at the same time Anne
and I were very sad knowing the reason we were presenters.
As for Baltimore’s inner harbor safety measures we are strongly advocating, I’m told things are progressing. In addition to trying to work with the city, I’m also talking to the president of the inner harbor association.
Ryan’s legacy is underway because of his hundreds, no thousands of people who loved and still love him!

If I may...Many things went wrong that awful night and one thing he didn’t do was ask for help. So if you ever find yourself in that proverbial cold, dark, and stormy night utilize all assets. That includes swallowing your pride and asking for help!
Thank You for keeping Ryan in your thoughts and prayers.
We love you Ryan !!!!
Till we meet again

Thank you all sooooo much for your donations! The almost inconceivable amount of LOVE and support we have received fills our hearts. Coordinating with Ryan’s friends in Duxbury and Vermont, this scholarship fund will keep Ryan’s spirit and memory alive. To give funds to like minded individuals in Ryan’s name is where the dollars will go. But the real reason is to get together through the years to remember and celebrate Ryan’s life! We love you and thank you all, Jim, Anne, Ben, and Emma.
