Ryan, Lora & Caleb Fund

$44,356 of $50,000 goal

Raised by 314 people in 13 days
Our hearts have been broken by the news that on July 6, 2018 Ryan and Lora Smith and their 4 year old son, Caleb, were tragically killed in Khada of the Republic of Georgia while on a camping trip.  It was initially reported by authorities that they died in a landslide. After a complete investigation it was concluded that Ryan and Caleb had been murdered and Lora died fleeing the attack from falling into a ravine. This new news has made it even more difficult for the family to even hear and comprehend. This fund is being setup to bring Ryan, Lora and Caleb home to their families here in the U.S. and to cover all the family members who will also be going to Georgia to collect their personal belongings, as well as all memorial and burial costs for the three of them. The order of events and what will actually take place is still being determined. The funds from this account will go directly to Byron and Lin Smith and they will be the specific family members to manage withdrawals. It has been beyond incredible to see the outpouring of love, prayer and support for both families. Thank you for your generosity. ❤️❤️❤️

Most of you now know there was a lot of wrong information being given to the families. The cause of death for Lora has now been determined as murder as well. The way this disinformation was sent out and then the real truth coming to light has been even more devastating! Your prayers for the family are needed throughout their time of grief. And we know grief like this never really ends, but prayer can lift the heaviness they are walking in every day. God bless you all.

The love keeps pouring in for the families of Ryan, Lora and Caleb. We keep raising the goal because we don't want to limit what God wants to do nor do we want to discourage anyone from giving. I believe this is holy ground and what is going to happen as a result of the loss of this precious family is going to be beyond anything we could think or imagine. Most of you have probably already heard of Ryan and Lora's dream to build a playground for the children in Marneuli. We want to believe God to see this realized!

Some of you may not know who Ken and I are. We are friends of Ryan’s parents having known Byron and Lin’s family for 36 years. We also served with the same organization that Byron and Lin did. They were some of the first people we met upon arriving in San Diego in 1982. Our son, Brooke, was good friends with Ryan and his twin, Chad , through grade school, middle school and high school. We have been friends and supporters of the Smith family over the years and are deeply saddened by this senseless act and are heartbroken for the families. Our intent for the use of these funds is to give all proceeds to the families to help with the costs of bringing Ryan, Lora and Caleb’s bodies home, for memorial service expenses and for the families to return to The Republic of Georgia to handle Ryan and Lora’s personal belongings and have a service there with those Ryan and Lora lived with and loved. A dream that Ryan and Lora had was to see a park/playground built there in Marneuli for the children as nothing like it existed for the community. They had been working with the authorities and were getting close to an approval. There is hope to see that realized and possibly use any funds leftover to make that dream come true.
