Ryan, Lora & Caleb Fund

$53,121 of $50,000 goal

Our hearts have been broken by the news that on July 6, 2018 Ryan and Lora Smith and their 4 year old son, Caleb, were tragically killed in Khada of the Republic of Georgia while on a camping trip.  It was initially reported by authorities that they died in a landslide. After a complete investigation it was concluded that Ryan and Caleb had been murdered and Lora died fleeing the attack from falling into a ravine. This new news has made it even more difficult for the family to even hear and comprehend. This fund is being setup to bring Ryan, Lora and Caleb home to their families here in the U.S. and to cover all the family members who will also be going to Georgia to collect their personal belongings, as well as all memorial and burial costs for the three of them. The order of events and what will actually take place is still being determined. The funds from this account will go directly to Byron and Lin Smith and they will be the specific family members to manage withdrawals. It has been beyond incredible to see the outpouring of love, prayer and support for both families. Thank you for your generosity. ❤️❤️❤️

Hello dear family and friend’s of Ryan, Lora and Caleb. It has been over a month now since the last of the memorials has taken place. There were 10 memorial services held in their honor!! They were highly esteemed and left a huge legacy of Christ’s love and compassion. The families need your prayers now more than ever as they begin the holiday season with empty seats at their tables. An invitation for an evening with any of their friends would do so much to lift them up and help them not carry the pain alone. Blessings to you all for your incredible support!!

Greetings from Marneuli, Georgia. On behalf of the Tacquard and Smith families, THANK YOU for your PRAYERS, sweet notes, faithful support and loving generosity. We give all the Glory to God for His sustaining strength, wisdom and grace since we received the shocking news of Ryan, Lora and Caleb’s deaths. When Barb Gowen told Byron and me that she had set up a Go Fund Me account in Ryan, Lora and Caleb’s memory, we had NO IDEA how much we would need your gracious gifts.

Because Ryan and Lora had no wills or life insurance, there are tremendous expenses. Bringing Ryan, Lora, Caleb and Shannon home for burial in Phoenix cost $28,000 alone. The U.S. probate attorney and court costs will be $10,000+, not counting the Georgian estate expenses.

Chad, Byron and my short-notice Tbilisi/Tacoma/San Diego flights were $8,000+ to attend the 4 memorials this week in Georgia and also in Tacoma August 23. Thank you for sending us here!

Much to our delightful surprise, $8,000 will be used to cover the cost of installing “Caleb’s Well” in the Kosalar rug village, saving Ryan’s weavers and the whole village several hours a day fetching water from the stream in the valley below.

In October, Devon, Alon, Easton and Madison will join Chad, Byron and me to hopefully witness the fulfillment of Ryan, Lora and Caleb’s dream of giving the children of Marneuli their first ever playground. PLEASE PRAY that the Marneuli and Tbilisi authorities will grant the land for the playground and pledge to protect and maintain the playground equipment.

We have had 3 wonderful days visiting with Ryan, Lora and Caleb friends and FANS. RLC made such an impression on the people of Marneuli and Kosalar. Their thoughtful, generous hearts are well known even in their town of Marneuli.

Maga, our Azeri interpreter today, shared how very unusual it is to have a foreigner allowed in, much less loved and admired, in the very closed Kosalar Azeri village. Maga had translated for Ryan during Ryan’s early days in Azerbaijan 15 years ago. Ryan was sharing about his Dugullooms Rug Project. (“Dugullooms” means rebirth of the looms) Even then, Maga said that Ryan was so integrated into the Azeri culture and language, that it was hard for Maga to believe Ryan was not born and raised in Azerbaijan.

Lora’s gentle, sweet smile and spirit touched so many Azeri hearts---fellow believers, her neighbors, shopkeepers, the weavers’ families, and the teachers and students in the Kosalar school.

It is quite humbling and WONDERFUL to hear these loving tributes to Ryan, Lora and Caleb. We are so proud of them!!

Thank you again for the prayers and gifts! We need them both!

Much love,

Lin for Byron and Lora’s family, too

Most of you now know there was a lot of wrong information being given to the families. The cause of death for Lora has now been determined as murder as well. The way this disinformation was sent out and then the real truth coming to light has been even more devastating! Your prayers for the family are needed throughout their time of grief. And we know grief like this never really ends, but prayer can lift the heaviness they are walking in every day. God bless you all.

The love keeps pouring in for the families of Ryan, Lora and Caleb. We keep raising the goal because we don't want to limit what God wants to do nor do we want to discourage anyone from giving. I believe this is holy ground and what is going to happen as a result of the loss of this precious family is going to be beyond anything we could think or imagine. Most of you have probably already heard of Ryan and Lora's dream to build a playground for the children in Marneuli. We want to believe God to see this realized!
