Cathy Clayton  PALM COAST, FL
I was diagnosed with Acute Meyloid Leukemia in October 2014. The disease was pushed in remission. I continued with treatment through Feburary 2015 and the disease relapsed in November 2015. The cure is a Bone Marrow Transplant. I found out on December 23rd that my sister(Ginny) is my match. There is only a 1 in 4 chance that a sibling will be a match. She is my cure. I am scheduled to have the transplant late January or early February. This journey is going to be very expensive. This is why I'm reaching out. My transplant will be in a Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fl which is two hours from my home. I will be hospitalized for 30 days and will need to reside within 15 min. of the hospital for two months following transplant. I will need friends and family to stay with me as  caretakers during that time. My sister-my donor needs to come to Florida from Maryland twice. The funds raised will pay for travel expenses, lodging expenses, caretaker expenses and missed wages. We have been battling this for more than a year and our piggy banks are hurting. Any support you can provide will be appreciated. God Bless.

Any famiy or friends intrested in helping as a caretaker contact me separately. Help is still wanted.

UPDATE!! I have to go back in for a transfusion of more donor cells. My last biopsy shows the engraftment worked but my new immune system is not fighting the leukemia cells the way it should. The hope is the additional cells will boost my system enough so it can work properly. This means more chemo and another 30 days inpatient. I thought this was the best way to keep you updated as we continue along this journey. Still reaching for the CURE. As always, I appreciate your continued prayers and support. Thank you!!

It is about 40 days post transplant Most of those days have been spent in the hospital. I am now in my apartment. I go to the clinic every other day and the doctors monitor my progress and supplement my needs on an outpatient basis. Overall the doctors are pleased with my progress and things are moving along as expected. I feel stronger everyday. One day at a time.

Finally! I am here, admitted to the bone marrow transplant unit at Shands UF. I ended up needing surgery to resection the infected colon. The infection is gone and my recovery from the surgery has gone well. My transplant date is March 25th. I will continue to provide updates along the way. Please continue to share this page and have friends of friends share this page. We are so close to our goal. Every little bit counts. I appreciate the support from each one of you.
God Bless!!

Ten years go, I too was diagnosed with AML, came to shands and received a bone marrow transplant. My brother was my donor. My doctor, Jan Moreb, was and is a complete angel. You are in the right place and with the right professionals. My best to you and your family.
