“ I ask your help and support for my sister, Leigh Harris, aka Little Queenie, who is undergoing intensive medical treatment for Stage IV cancer to the breast with metastasis to bone.  Cancer has also been detected in  her brain, lymph system and liver.

For those of you who know Leigh, you know she is reluctant to ask for help.  But as independent and feisty as she is and always has been, she has reached this point of exhaustive fatigue and intense pain (7 to 10 every morning on a pain scale where 10 is the most pain you can experience).

She is under the care of Wake Forest Baptist in North Carolina and has recently received specialized brain surgery (gamma knife).

She is facing a long course of treatments for the other involved areas in the immediate future.   Now that she’s undergone  gamma knife, she will receive concurrent radiation and chemotherapies in sequence for each cancer.

Leigh recently agreed to my setting up a Go Fund Me account.   In her heart she knows she can't do this alone without help.

Aside from the medical expenses, her day to day household bills accrue as she is unable to work while receiving treatment.

Every message of encouragement and/or donation that can post to this fundraising page  is truly a gift of love and affirmation during her treatment.

Thank you so very much for your support.

I've attached a verse from a song Leigh sings with joy in the spirit of life.

"All the sounds of the earth are like music,
All the sounds of the earth are like music,
The breeze is so busy it don't miss a tree,
And an ol' Weepin' Willer is laughin' at me.

 Oh what a beautiful morning,
Oh what a beautiful day,
I've got a wonderful feeling,
Everything's going my way”

As this campaign has run its course, I want to commemorate its closure with a note to each and every one of you who were a part of its astounding success.

The past 24 months have been a testament of Love in Action. Never in my wildest imagination did I foresee the outpouring of generous support and encouragement from hundreds upon hundreds of people. Words don’t seem adequate when it comes to thanking each of you, but wrapped up in these words are hugs, love, and gratitude beyond measure.

On behalf of my dear sister Leigh, I thank you from the very depths of our hearts. You have prayed for her, cried for her, fed her, sent her gifts of comfort, cheer, frivolity, hilarity, and given generously to help her.

I am overwhelmed by the benevolence and compassion of so many people…many of you whom I’ve never met, but nonetheless consider you part of our family.

The outpouring of donations toward this campaign lifted many of the financial burdens over the last two years that were due to complicated metastatic cancer and unemployment. Unsurprisingly, Leigh continues to face this with equanimity, humor and bravery that humble me. She is continuing treatment, “And though she be but little, she is fierce”.

While this may not be a note you can hold in your hand, it is as heartfelt as if I were putting a stamp on it and mailing it to you. If you would like a note to land in your mailbox, please email me at I would be so happy to send one to you. It doesn’t matter if you donated money, sent a card, lit a candle, or prayed for her, I’m grateful for them all.

Please keep reaching out to her and sending good vibes. May you and your loved ones be blessed abundantly by the kindness you have extended to us.

Happy Fall Everyone!

I wanted to share an update on Leigh:

She spent a nearly a week in the hospital earlier this month. Some of the issues addressed were pain management, treatment of an infection, and diagnostic testing. "It sure as hell wasn't so I could rest up" our dawlin' remarked and proceeded to go home in her pajamas, remaining in both until the Saturday the 14th. On that evening she made a special guest appearance at a throw down called Emilyfest, an outdoor music and art event which raised money for the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Winston Salem.

When asked how it went, she said that they met their fundraising goal, the bonfires and the stage looked beautiful, all the musicians played well and that she, despite the chilly temperatures, was "sweatin' like a whore in church" when she left her wheelchair and took to the stage (turned out she had the flu).

I know you guys don't need me to tell you she lit up the night, even as the flu took over and cut her set short.

Next up: Monday the 30th she starts radiation to new spots, followed by a different (and according to her oncologist) much more aggressive chemotherapy protocol as the efficacy of the first drug has run its course. She's being brave in the face of this, as usual but I know she's dispirited by what lies ahead.

She continues to need assistance in walking more than a few steps, and has a standing endurance of only several minutes. So the simple pleasures and joys, such as cooking, are not simple anymore - mostly they are painful so she's limited in doing the things she loves.

Rick is her sole caregiver: taking care of the house, getting her to and from appointments and daily treatments, researching and advocating for any benefits and resources that could be available to someone with Stage IV metastatic cancer. and playing gigs in the evening when he can, so there continue to be ongoing financial issues and needs.

Please keep in mind there are two ways you can help. One is making a donation right here or through (where you can listen, download, enjoy)

Please continue to keep Leigh in your warmest thoughts and prayers. I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for all of the kind support you have extended to her.

Love and more love,

Hey, just wanted to let everyone know, Leigh has just completed another round of radiation. Please continue to reach out to her on FB, texting, or through me. Although she does not always respond, she does read each and every one. Please understand, she's in a lot of pain, so it impacts her energy and focus. I'm headed her way on the 24th. PM me if you want to send me something to hand carry to her. We love each of you as family. xxoo Sally

Happy new year! I want to thank everyone who has sent love and light and assistance to Leigh. You have become our family and have enriched our lives and made things easier.

Earlier this month Leigh had a CAT scan and a bone scan. While there has been no obvious progression of her original metastatic disease, there are new lesions on the other hip (R) and spine. She has consented to radiation for those areas and that has commenced this week.

Please continue to hold her in love.
