Running for Pits
Many WVHS residents are Pit Bull Breed Type dogs with lots of energy and a strong desire for loving human interactions. Sadly, so many of these type dogs are misunderstood, feared, neglected and too often abandoned needlessly. Running for Pits is a group of volunteers who run, walk and exercise either with or for shelter pit bulls. The extra exercise and attention will help these adoring dogs put their best paw forward when meeting potential adopters!
Another way to help dogs get adopted is creating a more relaxing, less crowded, quieter environment for them on the shelter premises. The current renovation at Warwick Humane involves turning an old, unused garage into a “Doggy Den” with three enclosures with glass doors, large windows and furnishings that feel more like bedrooms than kennels.
So, how can you help? Make a donation, run for a Pit, share this campaign and help educate our community about this loving and vulnerable breed. 100% of all proceeds will go towards the wellbeing of homeless dogs in need, too many of whom are Bully Breeds. Together, we can make change happen. Visit our Facebook page, like us, share our page and be a part of this change. THANK YOU!
Running for Pits could not have come at a better time for the pets of Warwick Valley Humane Society! Meet Chip, a Pit Bull Type Dog, who came to us severely neglected, infested with intestinal worms and fleas, at right around the time Running for Pits was being formed. When he returned from the hospital, he had to be housed separately from the other dogs because of his health issues. Despite being young and active, he had to stay temporarily in a crate in the medical office. That's when founder Eileen Moon, saw him, fell in love and demanded that he be the pioneer Pit for Running for Pits. In addition to medical care and TLC from the WVHS staff, the fresh air, special attention and exercise Eileen provided helped Chip recuperate and thrive! He's finally healthy enough to go get neutered and become available for adoption. Check out his shocking before and after photos. Thanks Eileen and Running for Pits!
