Hit and Run Over By A Car (Horrific Injury)

On August 29, 2019 my husband was hit and run over by a car while attempting to cross the crosswalk on his bicycle while being a good dad, and husband just getting food for his family by our home in New Jersey. My husband's entire lower left leg, along with his bicycle, was sucked underneath the car and his leg was run over twice.  As a result, his leg was broken in five different areas including his tibia and fibia. His foot even turned in the opposite direction as his leg causing him excruciating pain. He was in the hospital for 12 days and under went two very serious surgeries, one to place a fixator in his leg to get the bones back together, and another to place a permanent nail in his leg with supporting screws for stability.

My husband is a very caring, loving and a hard working dad of four children. He truly does everything he possibly can for our family, but as a result of what's happened he can not work, and is estimated to be out of work for practically one year.  We own and operate a small commercial cleaning business and have had to terminate services with some clients because as his wife, I have taken over the business but physically cannot service so many clients. It's a small husband and wife owned business, so we have no employees. To help keep us and the family business afloat, I have started accepting residential based clients since they are less demanding as far as the amount of days I need to service them, but for the smaller demand their fees don't result in the large sums commercial clients do. I have just started accepting residential clients so to date, I have had less than a hand full.

While my husband was hospitalized, additional money that was not in our original family budget was spent. This additional spending was spent on travel for me, and children to visit him in the hospital, ingredients for a specialized diet to cook meals for my husband since he favored home cooking but needed healthy meals to gain back his strength, and a different meal budget for our children because they are children, and with four son's they eat tremendously.

The additional spending was also for me to travel to our commercial clients from the hospital because I would go to work, go home to shower so I wouldn't bring any bacteria from handling garbage at work, and for me to get back to the hospital so that I can spend nights with him.  Lastly, I had to purchase specialty items for my husband upon his release from the hospital like pain management based items, I've had to pay copays on pain pills, and pay for Lyft rides to and from his medical doctor for follow-up visits since public transportation in his condition is impossible and we both do not drive. He has a wheelchair, walker and crutches and cannot bare any weight on his foot in his current condition.

Because of the extra money spent, and the loss of clients due to his injuries, I had to work steadily and even as I over work myself, it is not enough for us to get back on track. We have fallen behind on virtually every bill, as we have to choose to use the little money we have for food for our four boys or the lights to stay on. This happened just as our children were preparing to return back to school so back to school supplies, clothes, and travel for our son's has added to the bill. Between all of these expenses and losing some clients all in the same month, it truly has taken a toll on our family and I can't see how we can make it work, particularly with the holidays coming and the added expense the holidays season can bring.

As a result of my husband's injuries, and the need to take care of our family, we didn't have enough to cover our rent fully and was threatened by our landlord with the threat of legal eviction if we are late again. Our landlord is well aware of our situation and despite that, and the fact that we've rented from him for nearly 5 years, still sent us the threatening letter all because we paid the other half of our rent two weeks late due to my husband's injuries .

Despite what has happened, we know there are still good people out there and we pray some of you guys can find it in your heart to support us.

This fund has been created to help our family of six keep from getting evicted, help with utilities, food, student loans, winter clothing, coats and boots, travel, and support my husband and our family through this troubling time. Our goal is to raise the funds needed to help us keep afloat for the year my husband is not able to work. My husband and I know he is on a very long road to recovery in his search to walk again, but we're taking it day by day. We thank you in advance for anything you can donate because every little bit helps. If your able, please share on your social media platforms.
