I’m running a half marathon. Originally it was a goal just for me, because I could.... but after hearing about a local woman who needs some help, I decided to ‘Run 4 Ric’
Erica Walker is a 48 year old Registered Nurse and her husband Mick is Laurieton's local Police Seargent. They have three children, 17 yo twins Tom and Matilda and 19 yo Jack.
Until very recently Erica, affectionately known as Ric, was nursing at a local doctors surgery when she became unwell. Sadly she was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Since then Ric has lost the use of her left arm and is unsteady on her feet. Furthermore there is a risk of seizures so Ric cannot be left alone and this means Mick has had to take time off work.
Ric underwent surgery in Sydney to remove some of the tumour and since returning home she has commenced radiation and chemotherapy.... and possibly the longest marathon known to humankind on her road through her treatment.
Around ten years ago the Walker's bought an old farm property with the plan to renovate the house. Shortly after the purchase, Mick became unwell with Lyme disease and has been unable to complete the renovation. Their son Jack says that for years his parents have been making plans about what they will do when Mick is better. Unfortunately now Ric is unwell and the renovations have once again had to be postponed.
As a member of our community who was lucky enough to be treated by Ric, I would like to raise money to help ease the financial burden while they run their private marathon.
Let's do what we do best as a community and pull together to support Ric and her family.
