Rueben's Journey

Donation protected
My name is Roxanne Niehus. I am the mother of Rueben Singleterry (now 17 years old). I have spent the last (almost) three years dedicating myself to raising awareness and inspiring others through my son's journey.

At the age of 14, my son was your average happy, healthy teen. He was excited to start his freshman year and even more excited about having a starting position on the high school football team.

Little did he/we all know that would immediatley change and Rueben would end up in the hospital nearly on his death bed.

Rueben was diagnosed with viral Encephalitis(Encephalitis is a virus that casues inflammation in the brain, seizures and can lead to death) in September 2014. We lost him twice during the time he was in the hospital and were told he would never be the same... and then something miraculous happened. God had bigger plans for our son and Rueben not only beat the odds, he made an amazing recovery!

Rueben turned to basketball to help him recover and kep his mind busy. We were all feeling confident that his seizures would end and he would soon be doing what every other teen his age was doing.

Unfortunatley, that wasn't the case and Encephalitis left Rueben with a very complicated seizure disorder that became almost impossible to treat and turned into Epilepsy.

We are now in the stages of working towards a cure, but have run into some medical and other expenses that we need some help with.  Rueben has had two surgeries that have been very succesful but have left some unpaid bills, we will use some of the funds for Rueben's medical expenses. There are also some additional testings ahead of us and one final surgery, funds would be used for those upcoming tests/procedures as well.

In the mix of all of this, Rueben will be doing some public speaking at an Encephalitis Conference in Dallas, some of the funds are to cover hotel and travel expenses.

Finally, we are hoping to find an author that would be willing to help publish a book based on Rueben's Journey, the rest of the funds would go to that.

I have added the link to my son's Journey on this page and for additional updates, please feel free to visit Rueben's Journey on Facebook.

All proceeds are to benefit our son and will help him throughout his journey. Thank you for your support and please continue to pray for my son and share his journey with others.
