Ruby's World Challenge Expedition to Kerala, India

Hi, I'm Ruby Day, I am 14 years old and I'm passionate about broadening my horizons, even though I am still quite young I want to be able to push the boundaries of what I can achieve.
I have been given the chance to take part in a World Challenge expedition to Kerala, South India in July 2020. World Challenge is an organisation that is about making big things happen through transformative adventure. They believe in the power of extraordinary experiences, and this will allow me to see the world differently and develop my confidence, independence and resilience, to help me learn and grow.
I need to raise £2700 to be able to take part in this experience, I know money doesn't grow on trees so I want to be able to work hard raise as much as I possibly can. Doing this will also teach me some powerful lifelong lessons, the value of money, how to budget and negotiate, skills I will need once I'm on my adventure. The cost covers all my transport, food and accommodation, and support costs so that while I am on my adventure, I can focus fully on the experience and the work I will be doing. This will not be a holiday. I will be part of a group of children from my school, and together we will be expected to take responsibility for arranging our food, where we will stay and what work we will be doing. We will be teamed with a local social organisation and will do work that the local community needs. Exactly what that will be depends on what projects are under way once we get to Kerala, but all of the projects will support the UN Sustainable Development goals and so will probably have something to do with education, sanitation or probably both. After spending some time working along with our rural hosts and hopefully making some great friendships, we will take ourselves off for a few days living outdoors and trekking through the spice mountains in order to fully appreciate the place and people.
To be able to immerse myself on this stunning journey through the land of spices would mean so very much. Being able to make an impact on a local rural community, being part of their daily lives and hopefully teaching them a little bit about our culture will be fascinating and life affirming. Also being surrounded by such a vibrant culture, trekking though the spice mountains, and experiencing a different way of life that only this adventure can give.
