For the Family of Ruben Beltran

Donation protected

This Go-Fund me account has been set up to help offset funeral costs for the unexpected loss of our beloved Ruben. For all of us that laughed at his Dad jokes, puns, or just because he laughed so hard at his own jokes, for those of us who loved/hated him at the same time because of his stubborn ass, for those of us who looked to him for advice, and for those of us who just truly loved him.

Ruben A. Beltran passed unexpectedly in El Centro on Thursday Nov. 8th at the age of 58. He has joined his mother and father, Alicia and Frank Beltran. He is survived by three siblings (Mary, Norma, and Victor) and his six children: Stephen (38), Christine (34), Jenny (30), Melanie (22), Erika (22) and Michael (19). Anyone that knew Ruben knew he adored his children. One could not ask for a better father. Despite so many challenges, he managed to be ever so present in all of their lives and molded them into the beautiful adults they are now. Ruben’s character lives on in them.

Ruben was born August 25th, 1960 in El Centro. He graduated from Central Union High School in 1978 and began his career as a firefighter with Imperial County Fire department at the age of 17. He later moved to Calexico Fire Department where he became a highly respected Fire Engineer and Paramedic. He was the recipient of the EMT-P of the Year award… twice.  He retired from the fire service in 2008, but continued his love of caring for others in the role of a private-care provider.

As a musician, he was well known for being a badass on the drum set. He became a drummer when he was 21, but according to him, he’s “been playing drums in my mind since I was born.” The bands you may remember are Cartoon and the Animators, Bad Attitude, and Night Wind. In this video, go to 1:45 to see him in his natural habitat.
