Hello Everyone and Calling all NURSES!!!
Fellow Nurse in Need of Help!
I am campaigning on behalf of my daughter Jessica, R.N. who is an ER nurse and was diagnosed with a rare form (1 in 846,000) of soft tissue cancer called a myxoid liposarcoma . It is a malignant cancer and she has a 12 cm tumor in her right leg. The tumor is extremely large and is pressing against the major blood supply and sciatic nerve. With the skill of one of the finest Sarcoma Specialists in the country, a vascular surgeon and a plastic surgeon, she will undergo 'limb salvage'. Jessica has just finished radiation therapy and is awaiting a surgery date to remove the tumor. Her 1st scan came back negative, so as of now the cancer has not metastasized. Beause sarcomas are so rare, there isn't a lot of research for these cancers.
Jessica is a Registered Emergency Nurse and single mother of two beautiful girls, Jasmine (11) and Jadyn (7). She is one of the most loving and compassionate women I know. She is a giver, and she has dedicated her life to caring for the sick. Now she is sick and needs help.
Jessica is my hero. I am amazed by her ability to handle so many things as a single mother and do them all so well. Since she was diagnosed, she managed to finish her last semester in school with A's in order to keep her 4.0 GPA, continued to work, running around the ER until a few weeks ago while receiving radiation to her leg, and never missed a soccer practice, spring concert or movie night with her girls. She is, in the truest sense of the word, an inspiration, in her principles, her work ethic, her attitude and her outlook. Jessica's love can light up a room. Even while supporting two children alone and working on an ambulance while going to nursing school, she could find a couple of dollars for a homeless person to get some food.
Jessica was told by her surgeon early on, "Jessica, you need to understand that this will be a life changing event, and more than likely a career changing event as well." She broke down in his office because she loves the ER., and had to work so hard to become a nurse as a single mother. She had to sacrifice so much. She does understands that her leg will be severly disfigured, and there is a possibility that she won't be able to walk, walk well, or could possibly lose her leg. Her response " well, I guess if that happens, it's becuase God wants me somewhere else (not in the ER). She is determined to work in the ER and knowing her, she will find a way to do exactly that. She even jokes about getting a 'bionic leg' so she can run around the ER even faster. But if not, she'll find a way to turn a negative into a positive.....that's Jessica.
Jessica needs a lot of help right now. She will not be able to work for quite some time after the surgery and rehabilitation. Her medical bills are already mounting, and she will have no income or employment for the forseeable future. She will need reconstructive surgeries later on as well.
I am setting a goal of $25,000 to help Jessica on her Journey. Please give whatever you can, if you can't give, please share the link. Jessica will bring years of return on investment as she will undoubtedly 'pay it forward'.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Stacey (Jessica's mom)
