On the evening of February 6th, 2015, a devastating fire swept through the communities of Paradise and Swall Meadows. Many homes have been damaged or destroyed.

My name is Amy King. I was born and raised in the Eastern Sierra and continue to live here. Many of the people who lost their homes in this fire are close friends and neighbors that many of us in the community consider family.

My goal is to raise as much as we can to go towards a relief fund bank account that the Bishop Chamber of Commerce has put together. The money will be deposited to an account at Alta One Federal Credit Union in Bishop, CA that has been set up for those who have lost their homes.

Any donations, small or large, are greatly appreciated as we all join together to get through this tragic time.

Thank you for your support!

I am happy to report that the money raised on this Go Fund Me site has been distributed by our Round Fire Relief Fund Committee to the people of Swall and Paradise who lost their homes.

Some more exciting news! There are still donations coming into the Round Fire Relief Fund through other local fundraisers and we will be distributing another round of checks this spring once the funds have all been collected.

If you're interested, I've attached an article that was published by the Mammoth Times that provides information on the committee and the distribution of funds.

Thank you for all your support!

Sincerely,
Amy

This information is for people who would still like to donate to the Round Fire Relief Fund. I need to better explain who to make the checks out to.

1.) A donation by check should be made out to the Mammoth Community Foundation. The Mammoth Community Foundation is the part of the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce that we will be using to help distribute the funds collected.

2.) In the memo, you would write Round Fire Relief Fund.

3.) Mail it to:

Craig Schmidt
Round Fire Relief Fund
c/o Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce
P. O. Box 3268
Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546

(Craig Schmidt is the executive director)

I want to thank every single one of you who has donated. Also, you all did a wonderful job spreading the word! $77,095 you guys! That is incredible! It has been amazing to see the amount of people volunteering and supporting the communities of Swall and Paradise in the past few weeks. Whether it is giving a monetary donation, offering help with the cleanup, distributing collected goods for those who lost everything, or keeping our friends in your thoughts and prayers, the love and assistance has been extraordinary.

The GoFundMe campaign will no longer be receiving donations. A committee has been formed made up of Swall Meadows and Paradise residents, along with myself. The goal of our committee is to consolidate all of the donations that have been made to the relief effort and distribute them to the communities of Paradise and Swall. The funds raised here will be combined with the donations received by the Alta One account that the Bishop Chamber of Commerce opened, along with other fundraisers that have been organized to raise money for the Round Fire Relief Fund. The Mammoth Community Foundation, which is a part of the Mammoth Chamber of Commerce has agreed to work with us to distribute the funds that have been raised. If you know of anyone who would still like to donate, they can do so by sending their donation to:

Craig Schmidt
Round Fire Relief Fund
c/o Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce
P. O. Box 3268
Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546

Craig is the executive director of the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce. Please make sure that if a donation is made by check that it says Round Fire Relief on the line for a memo.

This has been an emotional couple of weeks to say the least, but this campaign has been uplifting during a grim situation. Every one of you has helped bring a positive light to this unfortunate event and I am so thankful.

Love to you all,
Amy King

There have been several people who have requested that the campaign stay open longer so that they can donate through the Go Fund Me site. It is incredible to see that amount of donations that are still coming in every day. Thank you all for spreading the word about the Round Fire to your friends and family. The residents of Swall Meadows and Paradise have started to work on organizing a committee to distribute the funds that are collected here along with what is being collected in the Alta One Bank Account for the Round Fire Relief Fund. Because there are still those who wish to donate, this Go Fund Me Campaign is going to remain open for one more week. Please continue to share this with your friends and family. I can't believe we have raised $70,576, you guys are extraordinary! Again, if you're able to share the campaign page with any friends or family who lost their homes in the fire, it would be wonderful for them to see all the heartfelt comments that are being left on the page. Thank you everyone!!

I had a thought that mite help with housing. .for all the people that lost there homes. .Instead of paying high cost in rent..there are many mobile homes for sale..small investment for temporary living until people can afford to rebuild. .then sale the mobile when ready to move to there new homes.just food for thought. .and save money.

Apparently contractors charge big money - and I mean big money - to remove hazardous waste from sites being cleared by volunteers. So even more reason to dig deep to help this beleaguered community. Disaster relief doesn't come cheap.

So sorry for all my neighbors that lost their homes. I live near the Rovana Village and am so grateful to the fire crews and the Good Lord that the fire break held. This is a huge impact on our small community, so I shared this fund on Twitter with @AndersonCooper, @Oprah, @TheEllemShow, @Rosie, @TheView, @CNN, and @ABC7. I hope it gets noticed. Hopefully others will do the same. God Bless all the families that were affected, and all the emergency personnel -especially our fire crews. Let's all Hope and pray this drought year doesn't bring more wildfires.
