“Momma Rosie” Rosetta R. Caruthers Medical and Legal Support Fund
                                                30 May 1928 – 6 May 2018

Momma Rosie had priorities: Her Love for Jesus Christ, faith and walk with Him, time with the Holy Spirit and knowing, believing and sharing the Word of God.

Her beloved husband Lewey of 54 years a Korea War combat Veteran and her family and precious church family. Many including her pastors were dearly loved adopted Sons and Daughters.

Leading others to her Lord and Savior, she lead thousands to accept the Lord Jesus Christ and never missed an opportunity to do so. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years and as the leader of the New Beginnings Christian Church We Care Card Ministry encouraged and inspired hundreds with her very personal cards.

The Truth. Truth and living by it was all important to Momma Rosie. She always defended and reached out to the “underdog” the little kid on the “playground”. She could handle the truth and expected everyone to live by it.

Momma Rosie fell and broke her hip and pelvis on Saturday 2 December 2017. Her surgeon told her Daughter Michele after the surgery on Monday evening 4 December 2017 that the surgery went exceptionally well and in his opinion her Mother had several more good years of life left.

Rosetta was admitted to a skilled nursing facility on Saturday 16 December 2017. She continued the physical therapy that she began in the hospital and was committed and motivated to make the therapy successful and return home as soon possible and it was safe for her to do so. On Valentine’s Day 14 February 2018 she was verbally informed that her last day of therapy was that Friday and she was being discharged that Saturday 16 February 2018. She was extremely distraught and depressed.

Michele immediately began what would become a series of multiple appeals with Medicare and Blue Shield 65 Plus that were always supported with an “Authorization Code” you are approved for “Skilled nursing care until further notice” only to have that approval denied by the local insurance carrier, the medical director and the medical director and administration of the facility where she was a resident. At one point she went 23 days without therapy.  Her primary care doctor’s report stated that “This had significantly prolonged her mother’s recovery.” And “Interruptions in her therapy should not occur”.

On Monday 12 February 2018 Momma Rosie walked 60 steps as part of her physical therapy for that day. Michele was informed by the facility administrator on 16 February that her Mother had walked 160 steps that morning as that was part of the criteria for discharge. The family has since learned this was done over the objections of several other therapists and nurses stating you are pushing her too hard, that is unsafe. That same Friday 16 February 2018 the facility administrator brashly told Michele “A bed is a bed a body is a body and I do not care as long as I get paid.”  If I do not get paid I will lien your Mother’s house.

Michele took her Mother home on Tuesday 24 April 2018 and Momma Rosie went home to be with Jesus on Sunday 6 May 2018 just 22 days short of her 90th birthday.

We respectfully need your support for her Celebration of Life, protection for her Son and Daughter’s home, end of life legal issues and to perpetuate an ongoing legal support fund to aid other elderly and senior patients who do not have a family support system in order to provide legal assistance and intervention to make certain they do not suffer the same medical, financial and psychological abuse and neglect. Any funds in excess of those to address Momma Rosie’s end of life affairs will be used to provide legal aid to the elderly who find themselves suffering in silence at the hands of cruel and nefarious nursing and skilled nursing facility operators.
