Rose Johnson mural preservation

Donation protected
In 1998, with the help of some area school children, artist Rose Johnson created a mural called "The Prayer of St. Francis". Over time, it has become an iconic piece of art in the Phoenix area and is considered by many as her most well-known piece

Time and the elements have not been kind to the mural. So much so that repairing and preserving the entire mural is cost prohibitive. Working with conservation experts, we've identified one of the three walls as a candidate for preservation. We plan to use the funds to solidify the foundation of the wall, remove the graffiti, repair the missing portions of the artwork and seal the wall so future maintenance is possible. We will install a plaque that tells Rose's story and will include photos of the mural when it was originally completed.

The Coronado Neighborhood is an inclusive one that is made up of artists of all types. This mural is very much part of the neighborhood and is much loved by its residents and admired by visitors.

The Coronado Neighborhood Association and the Hansen Mortuary group have committed funds to aid in the restoration project with the difference in the total cost offset by this campaign.

We hope to begin the restoration/preservation process in April with completion scheduled by the end of May.
