Roots Forest School

$13,240 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 67 people in 34 months
Roots Forest School is a nature based preschool that operates out of Ponderosa State Park in the mountain town of McCall, Idaho.  We started in 2015 with classes for toddlers and expanded in the fall of 2016 to offer classes for young children ages 1-5.  Our tiniest trailblazers join us for our weekly parent toddler class and our oldest adventurers join us three days a week to explore, learn, and play.

Through child-led adventures, children in Roots Forest School become more connected to our local environment and community. Using place and play based learning, each student receives a seasonally based educational experience rooted in self-awareness, sensory development, social/emotional skills, and environmental consciousness.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to help support the growth of our school.

This money will be used for two main purposes:

1) We will purchase a yurt to put up in Ponderosa State Park to act as our school 'home.' The yurt will be a major asset to our school as it will allow us to have a space in the park that is ours alone.  We will be able to operate our school out of the yurt; storing our school materials there, providing a meeting place for parents and students, a classroom for our parent/toddler class and if necessary a place to hold class on winter days with severe weather.  The yurt will also provide us with a space to hold community events.

2) We will provide scholarship money for families who need it.  Our goal is for our school to be accessible to all families in Valley County who want a nature based education for their child.

We hope to reach our fundraising goal by Spring 2017.

On behalf of the students, staff, and families of Roots Forest School, thank you for visiting our gofundme page. If you feel as passionate about connecting children with our environment and giving them hands on learning opportunities as we do, please take a minute to make a donation.  Every little bit gets us closer to our goal.

Warmly,

The Roots Forest School Family

Exciting News - Our new classroom shelter has been purchased and phase 1 of the building begins this weekend!!! Thanks to all of you for making this dream a reality.
After further research we opted for a rectangular shelter in place of the yurt, we can't wait to see it up in Ponderosa State Park! With the wood stove inside it will be a cozy place for our students to continue their learning on chilly, winter days.
We have received such amazing support from Roots family members and the community over the summer and we have nearly reached our $15,000 goal. We hope to raise the final $1800 to support student scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year.
Thank you all for your continued support of Roots Forest School!

We're excited to announce that we are halfway to our goal of purchasing a yurt for our school! We owe a huge thanks to recent donors Franklin Building Supply of McCall and Roots parents' Matt and Brooke Caldwell.

We also received $500 this month from the McCall Farmers Market to purchase outdoor gear for our students. The generosity of our local community is pretty amazing!

Thanks so much to those that have been following our adventures and supporting our school! If you are on Facebook check out our page: Roots Forest School to see what we have been up to this year!

Between winter fundraisers and continued support from friends and family members we have raised $6,402 to put towards our yurt and scholarships!

We are having an incredible time in class this winter! Students have been learning first hand what the animals, trees, and plants do to survive the winter. We have gone on many snow hikes, sometimes in snowshoes, to explore different areas of the park. We are so thankful to have the generous support of Ponderosa State Park, it's really an incredible place to learn!

Blessing to you and yours in this new year!
