Books for Homeless Kids in Manchester
Help us raise £2,500 so every child who becomes homeless in Manchester receives the gift of a book.
There is currently a record number of homeless children in Manchester with over 1400 families currently homeless and in temporary accommodation.
Temporary accommodation is provided by Manchester City Council but this is often a hotel room where families have to live and sleep. When suitable housing is found for homeless families, it is may not be in their local area and can be outside of Manchester.
This means that children can be out of school for a long period of time. When families are resettled in permanent accommodation they often have to re-register for school, meaning children miss out on education as they wait on long school waiting lists.
Room to Read wants to make sure that every homeless child has access to books. Not only to maintain their educational development, but also so they can enjoy the gift of reading regardless of their housing situation.
The Room to Read project will provide each homeless child with a brand new book. We've raised £2000 so far but need more to make sure every child gets a book in 2019.
All money donated goes directly towards purchasing books.
Room is Read is part of Mancunian Way’s Change4Good project.
We hope to begin distributing books to homeless children on International Book Day :)
