The RoboSavages, a team of seven middle school students from the Fayetteville-Manlius and Jamesville-DeWitt school districts, won the first-place Champion’s Award at the 2018-2019 First Lego League regional competition in Utica, New York.  The competition took place at SUNY Polytechnic Institute on January 19, 2019.  The team also won the Robot Performance Award at the same time.  By winning the regional championship, the team qualified to represent central New York at the 2019 FIRST Championship World Festival (https://www.firstchampionship.org) and to compete at the international level with 100+ FLL teams from 70+ countries in Detroit in April 2019.

First Lego League challenges teams to create innovative solutions to practical questions each year. The theme for the 2018-2019 season, Into Orbit, asks teams to explore challenges and find solutions for humans during long space travel. The RoboSavages focused their research on energy-efficient food growth for space travel. In this project, they designed experiments to discover the most energy-efficient combination of growth light colors that would maximize food (kale) growth per watt expended.

In addition to their project, the team also built and programed multiple robots to execute various tasks related to the theme.  The third aspect of the competition was about core values.  The RoboSavages again demonstrated strong teamwork, gracious professionalism and good sportsmanship.

Please help the RoboSavages make their 2019 FLL World Festival appearance a memorable one.
