Medical Expenses for Robert Lemus
(please donate or share on Facebook and Instagram)
(this campaign is managed by Robert's friends)
Robert "Nightcrawler" Lemus is an up-and-coming muay thai and mma fighter (multiple time amateur champion), family man, husband, father to 3 kids, and a genuinely great guy. Those who know him know that he is one of the most selfless people who would do anything for others. He is always positive and always smiling, and ready to help others in need. Now he urgently needs our help.
As Robert was preparing for a fight, his life unexpectedly changed dramatically in just a matter of a couple of days. Only a couple of weeks ago he was healthy and training for his final amateur fight before turning professional. One evening, as he was playing with his daughter, he felt a pinch in his back. He didn't think much of it, but a little while later he started feeling shortness of breath and tingling in his legs. A couple of days after that, he woke up unable to move his body below his chest. He was basically paralyzed from chest down. He was driven to the hospital by his wife, where an emergency CT scan was performed. The doctors found something wrapped around several of the disks in his spine and decided to perform an emergency surgery. Everything happened in a span of about 5 days.
After the surgery Robert regained partial feeling in his legs, but has a long battle ahead of him. The doctors don't know exactly what's wrong with him and are continuing to perform various tests. Robert is currently at the Harbor UCLA Medical Center, and they're not sure how long he'll be there or how long the recovery will be. While we're hopeful for a full recovery, there are a lot of unknowns at this time.
Because Robert is the sole bread-winner, his family is faced with an unpredictable future. Needless to say his wife and kids, as well as his friends and relatives are very concerned for him. We are raising funds to help pay for Robert's medical expenses as well as support his family while he's recovering and is unable to work or fight.
Please help us raise these funds as Robert is facing the toughest fight of his life so far. We're not sure how much all the costs and expenses will come out to, so we're setting the initial goal at $10,000 (we may change it later). Robert is a fighter, literally and figuratively, but he needs all of us to come together and help him and his family. Please donate anything you can, no amount is too small. If you could spread the word and share this campaign through social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other channels, that would be very helpful as well. Thank you from Robert and all his friends and family!!
Please join us on March 25th at 10am at Kings Combat Sports in Chatsworth, California for a 3 hour seminar for a great cause and to learn from these legends. Space is limited, tickets are available at:
Thank you to everyone for your continued support!
We're 1 month into this gofundme campaign and are at 93% of our initial goal thanks to each and every one of you!!
Robert's recovery has been slow but he has shown progress. He is now able to move on his own without the walker, although with great limitations. His legs are still not back to where they were prior to this unfortunate development. Robert isn't giving up and is doing all he can to help his body recover so that he can regain his ability to walk and hopefully even fight again. The doctors are still not sure exactly what has caused all this.
Keep in mind that we're still running a tee shirt fundraiser for Robert that will go for another week...
Please stay tuned as we will provide further updates about a Kickboxing seminar to help raise additional funds for Robert's expenses.
Thanks again to everyone for your support!!!
There are some good news, the allergic reaction that Robert developed is now gone! Although the recovery has been very slow, we're confident that it will be just a matter of time before Robert is back on his feet.
We have organized a t-shirt fundraiser for Robert to raise additional funds for his many expenses, and would like your help in getting the word out, and possibly buying a shirt or two.
This awesome shirt was designed by one of Robert's friends and training partners German "The Bat" Baltazar who is also a talented designer. Our goal is to raise $3500 in 4 weeks (28 days). The shirts will be shipped upon the completion of the fundraiser on March 6th.
Please post this link on social media (facebook, instagram, twitter, etc) or email it to your friends who may be interested. Thanks to everyone for your help!!!
Although the recovery has been very slow and there have been some setbacks Robert remains optimistic and is doing whatever he can to help his body heal. Unfortunately a couple of days ago he developed a negative reaction to the antibiotics and had to pay a few extra visits to the hospital. The progress has been slow, but he isn't giving up. He still hasn't regained a lot of the feeling in the lower body, but he's a warrior, and we're confident it's just a matter of time before he's fully recovered.
On Wednesday Robert will have his staples taken out of his back, and doctors will assess him and determine which specialist to send him to.
Please continue sharing this campaign on social media. We're currently considering other ways to raise additional funds for Robert and his family. Based on the initial progress, the full recovery may take a long time, and we want to make sure that besides medical expenses they are also able to pay rent and put food on the table while Robert is recovering. Robert and his family really need our help in this difficult time. Thanks again to each and every person who donated, shared this campaigned or who sent positive thoughts his way. Thank you!!!
More updates to come...
