Road Rage Victim Funds to Recovery
March 7 2017 first thing in the morning my sister was the victim of a vicious road rage attack all due to a toot of her horn.
No words discribe the terror of getting a call saying that someone has broke your sister's arms with a crow bar. Not knowing if she has been hurt anywhere else. Not knowing where she is other than you are going there too. The total relief of seeing that she is still whole but the realization that she cannot use her arms or fingers to do the simplest of task such as scratch her nose or wipe the tears out of her eyes. Or to look into her eyes and not know how to answer her question "Why would someone want to do this to me?"
I am very thankful that it was not her head that was hit but it did affect her mind. She and her family have a long road of recovery ahead of them. With it being both her arms, she is unable to bear weight on them. So think about it. How do you roll out of bed? How do you go to the bathroom? How do you get dressed? Make your self something to eat? Not to mention how do you go to work and do your job?
Very soon they will be moving, this is by quincidence. She is going to be out of work for I figure 3 months minimal and also have some unforseen medical costs.
I want to be able to take the financal burden off of them as they figure out how to function with these new challanges. Please help me make this a reality.
They have asked to be anonymous for personal reasons.
The last couple of weeks have been crazy! Hospital visits, packing boxes, and her unexpected discharge in the evening a week after her attack. Their move on the weekend. It has been busy but things are starting to settle in and routines are starting to form.
Right now she is in her new home and on the road to recovery. Her left arm is stationary and doesn’t move. Her right arm can bend up to 90 deg no further. She has been ingenious on figuring out ways to help herself on things that we take for granted. Such as scratching your nose, eyes, forehead, eyebrows… you get the picture. A plastic fork in the end of a ruler length piece of foam becomes a handy tool for reaching those itches. She is also learning how to eat with the limitations of not lifting your hands to your mouth. So same handy tool different fork. Lots of ab muscles are being built as everything is no hands to get in and out of. Mobility in her right thumb and index finger is tough to get to open but they can still pinch together. Every day it is slightly better but a work in progress.
For the most part her spirits are high and she is very determined that this will not keep her from work for too long. She is hoping that in 6wks she will be able to go back to work on light duties.
I have a mini van and am happy to donate my time and cargo space to help with the move. My van can easily fit a full size sofa when I stow/remove the seats so there is quite a bit that can fit in a trip! Let me know if the help is needed and all the best for a speedy recovery! So happy this maniac was caught!
OMG there are no words for this terrible act rocking most of us out of our chairs. Fortunate that the GOOD Edmononians came together as we always do and so happy you started this fundraiser. It has made me and many others more aware and accutely aware our surroundings. Please tell your sis, that we are thinking about her and her family. If you want to contact me privately , I would be happy to set up a schedule of coordination of meals or what ever you may need assistance with.
Are we able to send her flowers or gifts? Thanks!
My heart is broken for your family. I wish your sister all the best with her recovery.
