Prom night is often regarded as a "rite of passage" and too often teens, even typically well behaved teens, use it as an excuse, or permission, to abandon their core values and common sense.
The Richard Montgomery PTSA Post Prom provides a safe, fun, alternative to after-Prom parties by offering an alcohol and drug free event following our Junior/Senior Prom. Keeping our teens safe on Prom Night requires a community effort. Our committee of RM parents works collaboratively with parent volunteers, RM administrators, community leaders and businesses to provide an affordable and safe event that our students are excited to attend.
Last year's Post Prom gave 450 Richard Montgomery teenagers and their guests a safe and attractive destination for after the Prom. This years' Post Prom event will be held on May 13, 2017 at Bowlmor Lanes in Gaithersburg, MD. We rent out the entire facility. From midnight to 4 AM our students take advantage of all night bowling, food, billiards, table games, photo booths, and other activities. We give away prizes such as flat screen TV's, chrome books and gift cards. This is all for a nominal cost to our juniors, seniors and their guests. All RM Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend Post Prom, whether or not they attend the Prom.
The success of the Post Prom is dependent upon donations from our community. The cost per student to attend the Post Prom is approximately $60. Through our fundraising efforts and the generousity of our parents and business sponsors, we have kept ticket prices at $15/ticket. We want to keep student costs as low as possible to encourage attendance. We hope you will consider a tax deductibe donation of $45 to subsidize ticket costs, although any amount, small or large, is welcome.
