Help A Die Hard Fan See The Boss!

In 1973, Mike Appel, Bruce Springsteen's manager, told a Columbia promoter "Bruce Springsteen is not a performer, he is a religion."

There are few followers of this religion as devout as me. In February 2012, I found my father's copy of Born to Run, listened to it on my newly received turntable, and was forever changed. I had an emotional revolution, hearing music in a way I'd never heard before. Merely two weeks later, I listened to The Wild, The Innocent, and the E-Street Shuffle and realized I could not go into any field but music. But, I always pegged myself as a critic or journalist, it wasn't until reading Peter Aimes Carlin's biography simply titled Bruce that I picked up my dad's old guitar and began my journey into the world of musicians.

Now, I need your help. On December 11th, tickets for Bruce's River Tour 2016 went on sale at promptly 10:00 am. Then disaster struck. By the time I woke up, a mere 45 minutes afterward, it was far too late. The tickets had sold out, and price-gouging scalpers had driven their resale prices up over 200% of the original cost. While this has been enough of a problem with Bruce concerts in the recent past, this tour is unparalleled, so much as to prompt the New York Department of Justice to issue an investigation into the matter.

I have never seen Bruce live before. I've listened to so many bootlegs and live albums that I could and have conversed with superfans about the evolution of his performance, but never through first hand experience. Never through seeing him in person, for real. There's that moment when you see someone you held on a pedestal in person, that moment where you feel that you could be him or her. That happened when I saw Bob Dylan, when I saw Gaslight Anthem, and with your help I can have that moment with the man who stands above the rest, Bruce Springsteen.

With your support, I can get this experience without having to incur debts no honest man can pay. I borrowed a fair amount of money to get a ticket to his February 4th show in my hometown of Boston, knowing that prices would only go up if I waited (which they did). Now I just need your help to make good on those loans.

There's even something in it for you besides the simple, warm feeling of philanthropy caressing your soul: If you contribute $1 or more, you will receive a download code for my cover of Johnny 99 (also available at https://gregvonteig.bandcamp.com/track/johnny-99-bruce-springsteen-cover)
. For donations of $5, you will receive a Bruce Springsteen-themed postcard designed by me. For $10, you will get ten audio essays on Bruce Springsteen songs, one on Dancing in the Dark as soon as you donate, and 9 more before February 4. For $25, I will send you a cover of any Bruce Springsteen song of your choice (from the first seven albums).

I am greatly thankful for any and all contributions and promise to return every favor I earn through this drive. If by some absurd miracle I get $488, I will donate all further contributions to the Bruce Funds (http://brucefunds.org/) to help other fans in need.
