Dear Friends,
In 1974 Rinconada Masters began with 15 swimmers coached by
Carol Macpherson and Cindy Baxter. Cindy retired 10years ago
We were the second team to start masters in Northern California.
In less than a year we were 100 swimmers on the team As other
teams developed, swimmers left to swim closer to home.
At present we are 40 swimmers after46 years at Rinconada Pool
Pool rental was $2.00 per lane per hour. We rented 14 lanes in
all workouts. We are not with City of Palo Alto anymore. A for-profit
company runs the facility now.
In January 2019 that rent increased to $6.25 per lane per hour. An
Increase of 300%
Due to this substantial increase we’ve had to implement some cost cutting
measures. All of our workouts have been decreased from 14 to 7 lanes and
We increased our monthly membership dues to $85 for members 65 and
under and $80 for members over 65.
At present we currently have about 40 swimmers which will not cover
our monthly expenses which includes pool rental fees and 2 coaches salaries
(1 full time, 1 part-time) in the very near future. Due to the many abilities of
our swimmers we can not cut any more lanes.
We average about 71 hours per month, Rinconada Masters pays approximately
$3,128 per month for water. Therefore, for the next eight months we
will owe approximately $25,000 in pool rental fees . This does not include
the coaches’ salaries. With the donations we can cover coaches salaries
with dues.
As you can see we need to come up with some ways to make more money.
Increase our membership is a big one. Swim Meet , clinics, new members
Many of the swimmers are now in their 50’s,60’s,70’s and 80’s. swimming
to stay healthy. Swimming is a sport you can do into your 90’s
The money we raise will get the team through
the next 6 months.
In January I will be retiring.
